Prep Excursion - Linear Park, Lenah Valley

Friday 13 June

On Friday 13 June Prep will visit the Labyrinth at Linear Park for a transdisciplinary learning experience, centred around Earthcare and Mathematics. We will be looking for provocations in the environment and engaging in open-ended mathematical activities - ‘Muddy Maths’! We will leave school by bus at 9.15am and return to school by 12.10pm.

Children should wear their sports uniform and appropriate, sturdy shoes/gumboots. Due to the nature of the activities we would suggest children wear warm layers of clothing items. They will need to bring a change of clothes, as well as a warm coat/rain jacket. We will be eating lunch at the site, so no lunch orders on this day please, as we will be unable to collect them before we go.  Please ensure that students have ample water to drink too. Please note that we do not require parent help for this excursion.

Year 5 Outdoor Education Excursion - Waterworks Reserve

Thursday 26 June

On Thursday 26 June, as part of our Outdoor Education program, all Year 5 students will be visiting Waterworks Reserves where students will work through various bush activities that focus on collaboration and adventure. Outdoor Education teachers Emily Ardas and Sam Jarvis will be accompanying the students along with the classroom teachers and other support staff. Students will need to wear warm suitable clothing, bring an extra jumper (e.g fleece, not cotton), beanie, gloves, hat, waterproof raincoat, keep cup for a milo, lunch, snacks and water bottle. We will be leaving school at 9.00am and returning at about 3.00pm.

Stay Home if Unwell

To ensure the health and safety of all participants, we kindly ask that students who are unwell or displaying symptoms of illness do not attend Outdoor Education activities. This helps protect the wellbeing of other students and staff and allows everyone to fully enjoy the program. If your child becomes unwell leading up to an activity, please notify the school as soon as possible.

Parent Information Session - Learning Differences in Young People

Friday 27 June - Starting at 9am

We invite all parents and carers of Primary School children to join our Pedagogical Leaders, Katie Danswan and Emily Keeling, and Primary School Psychologist, Morgan Norris, to explore how we identify learning differences in young people.

The session will be held in the Boa Vista Room (Meeting House) at 9.00am on Friday 27 June.

This information session aims to provide parents with general information about how learning differences are identified and supported within the school environment. We will explore classroom based assessments and when and why our Access and Inclusion Team may “dig deeper”. We'll touch on when investigations with allied health professionals may be recommended and explain the process of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).

Places are limited! Please register here to secure your spot.

Please note: This information session aims to provide general information regarding learning differences. We will not be able to provide individual management strategies for your child, however we can advise you of the next steps to take if you are seeking support or further information.

Year 2 Excursion - Mornington Waste Transfer Station and Bellerive Beach

Tuesday 24 June

On Tuesday 24 June, Year 2 students will embark on a unique learning journey to the Mornington Park Waste Transfer Station and Bellerive Beach. This excursion, part of our inquiry into Sharing the Planet, aims to familiarise the children with the various materials the resource centres recycle, the impact of our use of materials on the environment, and our responsibility when disposing of waste. We will leave the school by bus at 9.00am and return to school at 2.30pm.

As part of this experience, students may bring $2.00 to spend at the Mornington Tip Shop. The purchased item/s will be used in a recycling project back in the classroom. We hope the students’ interest in refusing, reducing, reusing, repurposing and recycling will be provoked. At Bellerive Beach, students will examine the current human impact on our coast line by undertaking a beach cleanup and subsequent survey back in the classroom. Students need to come dressed in their sports uniforms, including a warm jacket, beanie, and waterproof raincoat. They should bring a big lunch and lots of snacks, a full water bottle and any required personal medications (labeled) for the day.

If you are interested in joining us for the excursion,  we are able to accommodate 3 additional adults per class. Please email your classroom teacher if you are able to come along. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Kindergarten Earthcare Excursion Days - Lenah Valley

The Kindergarten children will be visiting a site near the Lenah Valley Linear Park for their Earthcare Days in Term 2. We will be going out each Thursday this term until 26 June. We will travel to and from the site by bus. We will leave at 11.50am and will return by 2.45pm. Collection time for all children will be at 3.00pm from the Kindergarten area, at the end of the Kindergarten day as per usual.

These excursions are an important aspect of our Sharing the planet unit of inquiry. Through these weekly trips we are aiming to develop independence, responsibility, curiosity, resilience and earthcare in a nature play environment. Please ensure that your child has a rubbish free packed lunch at Kindergarten, especially on Thursdays. This will help develop the children’s understanding about the concept and practices of earthcare and raise both the children’s and the community’s awareness about the impacts of soft plastic on our natural environment.

On our Earthcare days, the children need to wear their sports uniform, to ensure they are ready for active, hands-on, nature play learning. Your child will need warm clothing, appropriate for the forecasted weather, and spare clothing packed for the excursions, as we will be playing outdoors, even if it is raining. The school has special wet weather jackets and overpants that the children will wear, as necessary, depending on the forecasted weather. We have also asked all families to bring a pair of gumboots to school for puddle play at school, and on our excursions. These will also double as a spare pair of shoes if needed.

To help prepare the children, we ask that you support your child by encouraging them to carry their own bags to and from school - they will be doing this independently on our Earthcare Days too. We are looking forward to seeing how their natural curiosity and wonder is expressed while we are there and what we can learn about the land we live on, as we come to know a place slowly across these weekly visits. Please contact the Kindergarten team if you have any questions.
