Welcome all to the start of a new term and a distinct autumnal feeling to the days. I hope that the Easter and ANZAC breaks were enjoyable to you and your families and that it gave you opportunity to pause and consider how lucky we are in Australia.
Term 1 seems an age ago and we certainly achieved a lot in the ten weeks. This term will be no less busy with Open Day and Country Week highlights and in need of considerable effort to make it happen.
Open Day
With respect to Open Day on Saturday the 24th May, our expectation is that all students and staff are in attendance to present our fabulous College to the public. Whilst our facilities and programs are certainly first class, visitors typically remark how positive and proud our students are to be part of Harvey Ag.
Next week Mr Pfitzner will start canvassing staff and students to establish the Open Day roster. The aim is to match staff preference with student preference. Given our numbers of students and the need to cover all areas, Year 12s will be given preference.
I urge families to visit Open Day if they are able, especially if they haven’t been before. In lieu of working the Saturday for Open Day, students will have an extra long break on the following weekend, with Friday the 30th May off school. Parents whose child is unable to attend Open Day are asked to communicate with the College to seek approval for their absence just as they would any other work day.
ANZAC Day
My thanks to Partrick Swallow and Teresa Hickman who attended and coordinated our students’ involvement at the Harvey ANZAC march and service. My thanks also to Maxx Hicks, Eli Derums, Harris Ward, Eva Ivankovich, Alby Bach, Harry Boylan, Emme Narducci, Ana Ivankovich and Eva Italiano who represented the College at the service.
Thankyou also to Aiden Walker, Zachary Platell, Lara Nottle and Willow Hawkins who attended the ANZAC service in Waroona.
Today with the assistance of the College Councillors and Patrick Swallow, the College held it's own ANZAC ceremony in the gym. We would like to thank Trish Rumball from RSL Harvey Sub-Branch, for attending the service as our guest speaker. Well done to the students, it was a great service.
Harvey Show
Thanks to Sue Fimmano and Jodi Baggetta for setting up our Harvey Ag stand at the recent Harvey Agricultural Show and Patrick Swallow for assisting at the stand over show day. I particularly like the opportunity to speak with past students and families who are always pleased to search through photos and have a chat about old times.
Thanks also to Mieke Thiart and Aiden Walker who assisted the Harvey Show organisers in the lead up. See the letter of thanks from Jan Marinko.
Hello Steve,
I would like to acknowledge and thank the two students who came to Harvey in Show Week to help out with setting up. Those students were; Aiden Walker and Mieke Thiart.
I was very impressed with the way they conducted themselves and their willingness to do what ever was asked of them.
Both students helped on Wednesday morning with setting up the exhibition hall. This included bringing out tables and positioning ready for display, all frame work for art boards, placing wooden boards which make up stepped display tables.
Mieke also came back on Friday for the day commencing at 9am and worked through till around 4:30pm. Mieke helped on the oval moving and setting up horse jumps and equipment. From there, came into the hall and assisted me with stewarding and setting out exhibits for judging. We use clear screen barriers once all exhibits are in place, these had to be all polished which was a time consuming task. Mieke completed this still with a smile!
Her willingness to help and be involved was greatly appreciated.
I would like to thank you for encouraging your students to be involved in such a wonderful community event. Also please pass on my appreciation and thanks to Aiden and Mieke.
Regards
Jan
Congratulations Molly McIntyre-Edmonds
Molly was incredibly fortunate to have spent the last week in Coral Bay attending the DFES Youth Week CP. Not only was Molly able to learn valuable skills to bring back to her fellow cadets at the Coolup Bush Fire Brigade but she also had the honour of being the flag bearer for Bush Fire Brigade at the ANZAC Service. Molly's passion and dedication to Emergency Services is something that we are incredibly proud of.
