Focus on Learning

Kindergarten - Mrs Amanda Bartholomew
Welcome back to Term 2! Kindergarten students are reading and raring to go for another fantastic term.
Mathematics
To begin the term, Kindergarten students are learning about length. We have discussed the terms longer than, shorter than, taller than and wider than. This week we have started comparing lengths with increasing accuracy, ensuring we line up items carefully so we are able to order lengths from shortest to longest. In this task, students needed to make 5 worms for fishing. They were instructed to create 5 worms of different lengths so they can catch different fish. Then students needed to independently order the worms from shortest to longest.
Creative Arts
Kindergarten students have had many opportunities to be creative since starting school. Fornightly music lessons are a highlight and I can see the futures of many budding musicians in the kindergarten classroom. Kindergarten also spent some time looking at the works of some very famous artists throughout history. Here the students observed and discussed some of the works of Pablo Picasso, especially his fascination with birds. Students created their own birds to mimic Picasso's works.
With the season of Autumn well and truly upon us, Kindergarten created these beautiful Autumn tree artworks. Here is a sample of their work.
