Learning Stretch at MPPS
With classroom literacy and numeracy programs in full swing now students seem to be really embracing the academic challenges being put to them. Our work in the area of ‘growth mindset’ is helping students to stay longer in the ‘challenge space’. They have come to expect and embrace periods of struggle during a session. When challenged at school children can respond in very different ways. Some obviously love the challenges and get excited, others can be reluctant to ‘have a go’ in fear of making a mistake. Teachers have a whole range of tools and strategies to support students when this happens. Recently Kristen (3/4 Learning Specialist at MPPS) found a whole range of articles being written that discuss a common response to being challenged academically – the ‘I’m bored’ phrase. MPPS School Review Update
As you will hopefully be aware, we are currently undertaking of 4-year school review. So far it has been an amazing opportunity to examine in fine detail how we are tracking in relation to all aspects of school operations but specifically academia and well-being. Already we can see through feedback, surveys and discussion that MPPS highly values academic outcomes and without pre-empting the next 4-year plan before it is drafted, we can see that it will priorities the achievement of the highest learning outcomes for students.
In the meantime, we look forward to sharing our Annual Report once completed. The student achievement data is again very impressive showing that our students are performing at a very high level.
Congratulations Chess Club!
This week 5 of our students represented MPPS at the zone Chess Championship. They placed 3rd out of 16 schools which means they are off to the Victoria tournament (date/location, Felix to confirm).
Congratulations to all involved. Thanks for Felix (coach) for all of his encouragement and guidance.
Chess club runs each Wednesday lunchtime at school if anyone would like to join.
