Hello Everyone,
Using Supervised Crossings
As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, we would like to remind families about the importance of using supervised crossings when dropping off, or picking up, children near the school. These crossings are in place to ensure that our students can safely navigate busy roads with the guidance of trained crossing guards.
We are aware that some families and students are not using the supervised crossing on Hogan Street, choosing to cross at the intersection of Hogan and Quinn Streets instead. We have had a number of near misses there recently, and minor accident there on Wednesday morning where a student rode their bike across without stopping and looking carefully. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained. This highlights the importance of using the supervised crossings.
Here are a few key points to remember:
By working together, we can ensure a safer environment for all students traveling to and from school.
Thank you for your cooperation and for reinforcing these safety practices with your children.
End of Term 1
Wow! The end of term already! It seems to have gone by so fast. Reminder students will be dismissed at 2:30pm.
As we finish this term, I wanted to reflect on some of the fantastic moments we have shared:
Family Fun Afternoon (Picnic):
Our much-anticipated Family Fun Afternoon, where students, parents, and teachers gathered for a picnic in the sun, with lots of activities for everyone to participate in. It was a great time to connect, enjoy delicious food, and create lasting memories with our school community. Thank you to everyone who joined us – it was truly a highlight of the term!
NAPLAN:
Our Year 3 and 5 students prepared for and completed NAPLAN. I was very impressed with their positive mindset and calm attitude.
Excursions and Incursions:
This term, some of our students had the opportunity to go on exciting excursions and participate in enriching incursions. From hands-on learning experiences to exploring the local community, these activities have helped enhance the classroom curriculum and sparked curiosity in new areas. I love seeing our students so engaged and excited about learning!
Celebrations of Learning:
I know that our students love the opportunity to welcome family members into their classrooms, to share their learning and/or to complete some activities or challenges with them. This term, the opportunity was to build connections over mathematics. It was great to see many adults coming to spend some time with their child/ren.
I am looking forward to the next term, and am excited about the term’s opportunities for growth, fun, and learning. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.
Wishing you all a wonderful break and a relaxing time with your families!
Stand Up Project Parent Session
We are continuing with the launch of "The Stand Up Project" (SUP) in our school, an innovative and comprehensive program designed to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all our students. SUP is a whole-school approach that aims to reduce discrimination, harassment, and bullying within our school community. It empowers teachers, students, and parents to work together to create a more inclusive and welcoming community.
One of the key features that sets SUP apart is its peer-led approach. By involving students in the process, we aim to empower them to become upstanders and help create a more respectful and supportive environment for all.
On Thursday, 8th May, our SUP student leaders and Liam will facilitate our parent session. This session will be held from 3:45pm – 4:45pm and is for all parents/carers of students at our school. Please mark this date in your calendar. We will send home further information at the start of next term.
Volunteer Induction
This term we have held two Volunteer induction Sessions. It’s been great to have so many family members and carers attend! Induction covers the Child Safe Standards and OH&S information about our school. We are excited to see the varied ways our volunteers will be supporting us. Many are looking forward to assisting with excursions and helping in the library.
Volunteers could also:
And overall, provide a positive role model that encourages students to be the best person and learner they can be.
The next Volunteer Induction session will be held on Friday 16th May at 9:15am. If you interested in attending, please register at the office. Please note that you require a current Working with Children Check.
Kind Regards,
Deanne Scott
