Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

As a very busy term one draws to a close, I would like to wish all students, parents and their carers a wonderful holidays and hope that you have a peaceful break before we return for term two. My sincere thanks to all the amazing host employers of Narrandera and the Riverina for all their support in hosting well over sixty students this term for work experience and all the employers who are hosting year 10 students this final week of the school term. Feedback from host employers is both positive and constructive and will allow students to better understand the world of work and all the amazing opportunities students have for their future careers.

Please see the summary of recent events and upcoming event details outlined below.

TAFE YES Program – Construction Course Completed

Our group of Year 10 students completed their 7-week course last Friday and put the finishing touches on their resort chairs. It was fantastic to see how hard the students all worked to complete their projects and the teamwork, support and respect they all demonstrated and showed each other and their TAFE Teacher Chris throughout this program. As you can see by the photos, they can all be very proud of their finished resort chairs.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank their TAFE teacher Chris Lymer, Fee Smith for organising another TAFE YES course for our students and all the TAFE staff up at Narrandera TAFE for supporting our students throughout this amazing opportunity and for the lovely BBQ lunch they provided the students on Friday.

YEAR 10 Work Experience

Congratulations to all our Year 10 students who went out on work experience this week. Employer feedback for students has been very positive so far, as I continue to call in and visit students this week, I know students will gain new insights into the world of work and the amazing opportunities and careers available to students in our local community and further afield.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the host employers in Narrandera and surrounds for their ongoing support of our work experience program and appreciate the time and energy all employers and their staff go to, to support our students by providing such valuable real-life work opportunities. THANK YOU, EMPLOYERS!

Here is a selection of photos sent through or taken during my visits to students out with host employers and businesses.

Unserious Careers Visit – Wednesday 26th March – Senior Students

Alana Kilmartin of Unserious Careers visited our students recently to give students practical steps and advice on how to navigate the first five years of their career and how to embrace the opportunities that come their way. Alana has a natural ability to cut through the typical messages students often receive and shared her personal careers journey and the insights she has gained along the way.

Students were given practical advice that they can use as they begin to think about their transition to the many opportunities and post school pathways that await them. I have several copies of Alana’s book ‘Unserious Careers’ in my office for any students who wish to borrow a copy.

University Early Entry & UAC portal open for Year 12 Applications

Year 12 students would all have received an email from the University Admission Centre on the 2nd of April. As well as many universities now having their Early Entry programs open or opening soon. I have encouraged all year 12 students to wait till next term to being their applications as they focus on their preliminary exams this week. I will be able to assist all students next term and will go through the process step-by-step for each student. So, students should focus on exams at present and then hopefully have a well-earned rest over the holidays.
