Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

Class Spotlight 5 Blue
Year 5 has been focusing on imaginative writing, more specifically how to plan, create and revise written texts for multiple purposes and audiences through selection of text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language. Here are some orientations from 5 Blue they wrote from the stimulus below:
Fred rode his horse in the middle of nowhere. He was lost, just following the road alongside him. Fred had been riding with his little sister and family when the sandstorm had flown in, and he had been separated from his family. He had been wandering alongside the road for days, desperately looking for a sign of civilisation but so far, no luck. His water supply was empty and had been empty for 2 days. Fred knew he wouldn't live more than a day more because he knew that you could only go without water for a day. (James A)
Jeff's horse galloped. The long empty road ahead loomed over them while he rode his horse swiftly. Vroom! The sound of cars echoed and boomed through the quietness. He was a slug. Jeff looked behind himself. Oh no, he thought. They are here. "Giddy up! He shouted. Two speeding cars approached. Two beams of light erupted out the cars. Vrzrzrz! They had zapped Jeff and his horse. Jeff had blacked out. He watched as the world slowly started to fade away. His horse also collapsed as she cried out for help.

It is one steaming hot morning and Jack is cleaning his hometown. Jack is 10 years old and volunteering to help clean up the village for the day but he had no idea that it was going to be this hot. One day Jack was in the middle of cleaning his neighbours house when he started to hear voices coming from the downstairs lounge room. He felt a cold shiver rush down his spine if the owners were away than who or what is talking down stairs? He thought as he wiped the sweat off his forehead. Jack went down the first few stairs to have a peak and what he saw was breathtaking. There was an old man standing in the lounge room with what looked like bear fur that was clothing him. Jack wanted to get a better look so he went down one more step, but as his foot hit the step a slow and loud screech came from underneath him. Then all in one swift move the man took something out of his pocket and shot Jack. Jack started to feel sleepy. His eyelids started to hang from his brows. He was now wobbling dangerously and just before Jacks hearing gave out, he heard the man say GOT ONE in a loud croaky voice. Straight after the man had finished his words Jack had fallen asleep.
