Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

It was great to see so many boys out on the Ovals on Monday afternoon trialing for our Winter sports. There will be a second trial held on Monday 31 March. Boys are to ensure they have all the correct equipment and uniform for the Winter trials. There were a number of boys trialing for Football without shin pads and some in Rugby without mouthguards. There were a number of boys trialling for Football without shin pads and some in Rugby without mouthguards. These pieces of equipment are very important to the safety of players and must be worn.
A reminder that the trials are only the first step in determining teams. Following the first selections, boys have the first three rounds of training and games to continue to impress. Don’t be disheartened by your initial selection. If you wish to be in a different team, train hard and play to your best. The coaches will notice and make adjustments as necessary. Good luck to all those attending the second Winter trials.
With Winter trials, comes the end of the Summer season. With Winter trials comes the end of the Summer season. This term there were over 150 individual fixtures, with just under a 50% winning rate. Throw in a handful of draws and they came out pretty close to even. If we look carefully at the results, we can see much improvement over the term, with winning margins from schools we played twice, heavily reduced over the term. In many cases, there have only been a few points/runs between the teams. This makes the prospects of Term 4 very exciting, and we look forward to seeing the boys continue to develop and challenge their opposition later this year.
By now, all families in the Junior School should be aware of the Supporter’s Day occurring on Saturday 5 April. By now, all families in the Junior School should be aware of the Supporters’ Day occurring on Saturday 5 April. This is a compulsory day for all boys and for those who are unable to attend the day (requests for leave should be emailed to john.locke@spc.nsw.edu.au), an alternate day to participate will be found. While we start supporting the Second XV Rugby at 2:00 PM, all boys need to congregate in the Powell Pavilion by 1:30 PM to have their names marked off. It is always a very exciting day, and the Senior boys are always appreciative of the efforts the Junior School boys make to cheer them on. This year we are playing Trinty Grammar in our traditional pre- season Black and Gold Shield competition. G Blue, Black and Gold!
There is seemingly no end to the talents of the boys in the Junior School. Every week there is someone or a group doing something extraordinary. Over the last weekend, Malietau Davis of 6 Black competed in the State Championships for Little Athletics. Malietau competed in the Discus and Shot Put events and in doing so threw two personal bests of 37.35m and 13.22m respectively. This led him to winning silver medals in both events. We look forward to seeing Malietau compete for the College Athletics Team later in Term 3 this year. Congratulations on an outstanding effort Malietau!
The draft Winter draw for the Junior School will be available on the SPC App at the end of this week. Please be aware that there are many byes on the draw. I am working with the other IPSHA schools to fill these in with games. When reading the draft and planning the Winter season, expect the byes to be filled with games.
