Principal's Message
Term 2 - Week 2
Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you had the chance to spend some quality time with your family and enjoy the beautiful weather we had here in Melbourne.
Over the break, the builders have been hard at work here, making some exciting improvements to our outdoor space. The basketball courts have been laid and are curing ready to have the markings next, benches have been installed, providing the perfect spots for people to sit and landscaping has taken place.
We have also relocated 5 classes to new spaces within the school.
How wonderful it was to see our students perform in Suessical the Musical at The Round this week! The energy and enthusiasm they brought to the stage truly made it a memorable experience for everyone. I want to take a moment to thank our incredibly dedicated students and teachers for all the hard work, time, and effort that went into presenting such a fun, creative, and well-polished show.
The attention to detail, the seamless coordination, and the passion that everyone showed really shone through in every performance. It’s not easy to pull off a production like this, and it’s clear that each and every one of our producers, staff, performers and backstage team members gave their best. The musical was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, talent, and the joy of theatre.
We’re so proud of what was achieved, and it’s moments like these that make our school community truly special.
Last week, we held a ceremony to mark ANZAC Day, a significant occasion to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the Australian and New Zealand Armed Forces. Led by our dedicated student leaders, the ceremony was a moment of reflection and respect for those who have served and given their lives for our countries.
Each class participated by laying a flowers, a simple yet powerful gesture that symbolised our collective gratitude and remembrance, whilst the school choir sang.
Today, we bid farewell to Mel Seadon. Mel has been a beloved member of the MPRPS community for many years, having taught so many students in her time here. Her dedication and kindness have made a lasting impact on everyone here, and she will be greatly missed. We want to take this moment to wish Mel all the very best in the next chapter of her journey. Thank you for everything, Mel, and good luck with whatever comes next!
We welcome Beth Szentesi as her replacement. Beth is already a familiar and well-regarded member of the MPRPS community. She has previously worked at our school in both Education Support (ES) and Casual Relief Teacher capacities, and is well known to both students and staff.
Melissa Nelson is a Creative Arts Therapist working in primary schools and joins the Mount Pleasant Rd Primary School community this term.
Melissa is passionate about helping every child become the best version of themselves through creative expression and play.
Melissa utilises a wide range of creative tools to support a child’s social and emotional development, with the aim to enhance their learning experience and develop lifelong skills in emotional regulation and relationship building.
Melissa will be working with students in 1:1 and small-group sessions that are designed to encourage positive social skills particular to each child. The focus of these sessions will also include regulation strategies, making healthy choices and building a healthy personal identity and self-confidence.
If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact our Wellbeing Leading Teacher, Jonny Hobbs, Tuesday - Friday.
Our school’s policies on Asthma, Anaphylaxis, and Medication Administration ensure that students with these medical conditions are safely supported throughout the school day. The asthma policy includes individualised processes for students with asthma, outlining triggers, medications, and emergency protocols. The anaphylaxis policy focuses on preventing and managing severe allergic reactions, including the use of epinephrine auto-injectors and clear emergency steps. The medication administration policy details how medications are administered, stored, and documented, with clear guidelines for parental consent and healthcare provider authorisation. These policies are designed to safeguard the health and well-being of all students, and more information can be reviewed on our school website.
Federal Election 2025 - Saturday 3 May
The federal election is now just one day away, and there is lots planned for the MPRPS polling location. This year, we will be running a BBQ, a cake stall, a secondhand book stall and a secondhand childrens toys and games stall on the day, which are always very well received by the community.
We need significant volunteer help over the next week to make this a huge success, so if you're able to, please consider putting your hand up for one or more of the following:
Volunteer on the Day
On the Saturday, we require almost 100 hours of volunteer time to successfully run the day. Currentlyabout half have been filled by volunteers. I really do need your help with this, so if you can spare an hour or two to help us out, it would be greatly appreciated. You can find the roster at https://volunteersignup.org/BACMT
Once election is over with, we move straight to Mother's and Special Persons Day Stalls in week 3. Kinder stalls will run on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 May ($2 per child).
The school stall will be held on Friday 9 May, 9am to 12pm, with gifts ranging from $1-5.
If you are free to help out on any of the above days, please sign up at https://volunteersignup.org/CKHQQ. A valid WWCC is essential to volunteer on the day.
The sun shone brightly yesterday for our school’s cross country event, making it a perfect day for running. We are proud to announce that 60 students have qualified for the District event.
Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship. A huge thank you also goes to the staff and parent volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly.
This year our whole school photo day will be held on Wednesday May 7th.
