What a fantastic first term of school the Preps have had!
We have thoroughly enjoyed watching them flourish over the term, learning new letters, reading common words, learning new mathematical concepts, and even beginning to write some words. They have made lots of new friends, been a part of lots of fun learning experiences, and enjoyed exploring various activities during investigations. Their determination and resilience does not go unnoticed, and we are very proud of their transition to school. Also a big thank you to parents and families for making the transition so smooth, and for being so supportive!
Last week, the students had their final buddy visit for term 1. The students went outside and showed their grade 5 buddy their favourite spots to play in the school. They then went inside and drew pictures of these places, and got to know one another even better. There were smiling faced all around! It was a great way to end the week.
In Writing, the students have been completing recount writing. They have been reflecting on athletics day, looking at pictures and videos from the day. The students have then been making their own 'freeze frame' pictures, where they pose as a 'snapshot' of the day. They have then been writing about the different activities and how they felt, what they saw, and what they heard. It has been lots of fun!
Each Monday, the students participate in PMP. The rotations they completed this week were balancing, bouncing a ball, walking backwards, and jumping. It is a wonderful chance for the students to keep active and develop their gross-motor skills. We always see lots of smiling faces during PMP!
We have been doing some Easter activities in class this week. The students made an Easter basket, and they received some goodies inside to enjoy at home. Lucky ducks! They also did some Easter writing on 'How to Catch the Easter Bunny'. The students also made some Easter pattern crowns during maths time! It was so much fun.
The prep team want to wish you a happy and safe school holidays, and we will see the students back and refreshed ready for Term 2 on the 22nd of April. Happy Easter!
Kindest regards,

Grade 1
One term full of fun and excitement down! 3 to go!
Hello families and special people of our Grade 1 friends. Thanks for checking in for our last week of term. Your care, attention, and support are always appreciated.
We really finished this term off with a bang, with interest and excitement across the board.
Our work on summarising has been a blast, checking out great titles such as Enemy Pie, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, and The Sandwich Swap. Kids have enjoyed thinking about the characters, settings, problems, and various resolutions, and even trying it with their own books!
We are now experts on words like kite, note, and tape, as well as quite a few common words. Practicing these ‘split digraphs’ with your little speller is preparing them for all the new spelling to come next term as they become more confident and independent.
We also took great steps in measuring distance from one place to another all around the school, and we totally ruled as we measured objects in the classroom, seeing how many popsicle sticks tall we are.
Students loved writing with some freedom this week, getting excited about Easter and trying out some creative and daring writing styles.
We were also so fortunate to have a visit from some amazing community helpers! A gigantic thank you to our kind firefighters who came and showed us their truck, hose, uniform, tools, and how to stay safe! And another equally gigantic thank you to our nurses who taught us about safety, hospitals, medical equipment, and how to put bandages on some very sore teddies!
It’s been an amazing ten weeks with your little learners, and it’s been really heartwarming getting to know their quirks and what they’re excited about. We’re excited for all the fun to come next term and sincerely hope you have a wonderful and restful holiday! Thanks for being awesome!

Grade 2
WOW! What a fantastic term we have had. So many fantastic events, so much learning, and so much fun. This Term we have enjoyed; Athletics Day, Donut Day, Sushi Day, Harmony Day, letter writing, Recounts, Place Value in Maths, Learning about Growing Older, The Zones of Regulation, Cyber Safety Project and lots of in-class learning..... to name a few.
Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about measuring length using formal and informal units of measure which has led us outside onto the court spaces to measure some of the courts we have at RHPS. We have been learning about connecting to text in reading and writing letters in our writing time to people we know and love as well as formal letters to people we don't. This week we have also had some fun preparing for Easter, which we all loved, especially the chocolate part.
From all of us in Grade 2, have a wonderful holiday and enjoyable Easter. We look forward to hearing all about the holiday adventures on our return (Tuesday 22nd of April)

Grade 3 & 4
We have had a great time wrapping up our learning for Term 1 and looking towards what is happening in Term 2.
In Reading, we have been working on developing the skills of predicting, visualising and asking questions about the text. We have used a variety of mentor texts to assist us with our learning, including ‘My Two Blankets’ and ‘Wendy’. We have worked both independently and in small groups to discuss our ideas and share our learning with those around us. We have had so much fun as we have used a range of modalities to demonstrate our learning – creating posters and using our laptops.
We have been “bumping up” our writing, with a focus on word choice and how changing/adding/removing words in our writing can change or enhance meaning. We have used excerpts from our mentor text ‘My Two Blankets’ and had a go at putting our own ‘spin’ on the text, through the use of synonyms, nouns, verbs, adjectives and punctuation.
Our focus for Maths this fortnight has been measurement. This has been very hands-on and we have been able to go outside to engage in learning too! We have learnt about length, capacity and mass and how to accurately measure each unit using scaled instruments (ruler, tape measure, measuring jugs, scales). The teachers have loved seeing how engaged the students have been and it has seemed that everyone has had a lot of fun while also learning.
In Wellbeing, we have been learning how to make friends. We have discussed strategies to do this effectively such as asking questions to get to know the other person and inviting them to join a game. We have so many kind students in our level!
We hope that you all have a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all back next term! Just a reminder that Term 2 starts on the Tuesday 22nd April 😊

Grade 5 & 6
What a fantastic term it has been in Grade 5/6!
We’ve had an action-packed few weeks filled with exciting summer sports, including softball, volleyball, tennis, and cricket. It’s been wonderful to see all students giving their best, showing amazing teamwork and sportsmanship. We’re so proud of how everyone represented our school values on and off the field.
In Mathematics, students have been busy designing and constructing their own cities, applying their knowledge of perimeter and area to create impressive 3D buildings. It’s been a hands-on, creative way to bring learning to life!
In Literacy, we’ve been exploring visual media, with a focus on advertisements. Students have been learning to identify the purpose and audience behind different ads, developing their critical thinking and media literacy skills. Our discussions have been thoughtful and insightful, and it’s been great to see students engaging critically with what they watch.
It’s been a fantastic Term 1, and we’re already looking forward to a jam-packed, fun-filled Term 2 with lots more learning and laughter ahead.
Wishing all our students and families a safe and relaxing break – you've earned it!
Warm regards,
The 5/6 Team
