Grade 6 Leaders: Dream and Lead Conference

On Wednesday 26th March, the Grade 6 leaders went on an excursion to the Dream and Lead Conference. We had an early start catching the train from Lilydale Station into the city, where we then walked to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. When we arrived at the event, we jammed to some music that DJ Olly was playing while we brainstormed what leadership meant to us. This was soon followed by introductions from our hosts Bonnie and Liam who spoke to us about how to be a great leader and create change, no matter how old you are.

We listened to guest speakers’ stories on how they became leaders in their fields, including the founder of the Dream and Lead Conference, Will, Homie co-founder, Nick, and Project Rockit founder, Lucy. They spoke about how to make a difference and how to be an awesome leader! We learned how to communicate fluently and how to engage audiences using tone and body language. We also learned how to communicate with others and start conversations maturely.

One of the concepts we learnt about was the G.O.T method when communicating. G stands for Growing in Confidence, O stands for Opening a Conversation and T stands for Tone. We also learnt about the ‘Triple A’ strategy, which stands for Accept, Acknowledge and Ask.

In our breaks, we had dance battles with other schools, and of course we won. They had all sorts of fun activities to help us network with other students, such as bingo, where you had to find people from other schools and work together to complete activities.

Overall, it was a great experience and we all had a lot of fun. Thanks Dream and Lead for a fabulous day!
