CELEBRATING OUR FAITH

Walking the Final Steps:

A Reflection for Holy Week

As we reach the first of April, our journey through Lent is drawing to a close. This week, our school community joins millions around the world in observing Holy Week. Having spent the last forty days in reflection, prayer, and small acts of sacrifice.

Today - April 2, marks Holy Thursday, where we remember the Last Supper and the call to serve one another. This is followed by the solemnity of Good Friday and, finally, the joy of Easter Sunday on April 5.

Lent invites us to do the opposite: to slow down. It’s a season not just of "giving things up," but of "taking things up"—taking up more kindness, more patience, and more time for the people who matter most. As we head into the Easter break, let’s carry that spirit of renewal and hope into our homes.

"Lent is a period of spiritual 'spring cleaning'—a time to brighten the corners of our lives and hearts in preparation for the light of Easter."

The Home Connection:

Family Table Talk

To help bring the themes of Lent and Holy Week into your home this week, here are four questions to spark a conversation with your children:

  1. The "Little Things": During Lent, we often try to give something up. What is one "small thing" you did or gave up recently that made you feel more focused or grateful?
  2. Service & Kindness: On Holy Thursday, Jesus washed his disciples' feet as a sign of service. How can we "wash each other’s feet" at home through simple chores or kind words this week?
  3. Finding Stillness: The world can be very noisy! Where is your favorite "quiet spot" to just sit and think or pray?
  4. New Beginnings: Easter is all about new life. What is one thing you are looking forward to "starting fresh" or trying for the first time this spring?

Dear God,

As the season changes and the days grow cooler, we pause to walk through this Holy Week together.

Thank you for the lesson of Holy Thursday. Just as we gather for meals at home, remind us that Jesus gathered his friends to show them that leading means serving. Help us to look for ways to help others without being asked.

On Good Friday, as we see the shadows lengthen, help us to be a light for those who are sad or lonely. Give us the strength to be brave and kind, even when it feels difficult.

As we look forward to Easter Sunday, we thank you for the promise of new life. Even as the trees rest for autumn, we know that your love is always growing within us. Fill our mid-term break with safety, rest, and joy.

Amen.
