Wellbeing and Inclusion Update

Welcome Back
Welcome Back – Wellbeing Team Update (Term 2)
We hope all families had a restful and enjoyable break. As we begin Term 2, our Wellbeing Team is excited to continue supporting students in developing strong social and emotional skills that help them thrive both in and out of the classroom.
This term, our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) focus is on Emotions.
Students will be exploring what emotions are and why they are an important part of everyday life. Through classroom discussions and activities, they will learn to recognise and identify emotions in themselves and others, including noticing facial expressions, body language, gestures, and physical signs that can give us clues about how someone is feeling.
A key part of our learning will involve understanding what triggers different feelings. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences, using prompts such as:
- “I feel angry, mad, or furious when…”
“I feel sad or upset when…”
We will also focus on what to do when strong emotions arise, particularly anger, with students practising strategies to manage these feelings in safe and respectful ways.
Another important area of focus is empathy—helping students understand how others may feel and respond with kindness and consideration. This connects closely with our expectations around showing respect to all members of our school community, including visitors and Casual Relief Teachers (CRTs).
Students will also engage in mindfulness practices, learning simple techniques to help them relax, regulate their emotions, and refocus their attention when needed.
In addition to our classroom learning, we will continue to strengthen a consistent, school-wide approach to behaviour, supported through our use of Class Dojo. This helps ensure students experience clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and consistent responses across all learning environments.
Our staff will also be engaging in ongoing professional learning in trauma-informed practice, ensuring we continue to build our understanding of how to best support all students, particularly those who may require additional care and support to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.
Each class will tailor these themes to suit their students, ensuring learning is meaningful, practical, and relevant.
We look forward to a positive and productive term working together to support every child’s wellbeing.
