Dear Wollert Primary School Families,

Dear Families,

Welcome back for Term 2! We have an action-packed term ahead for our learners to excel in the classroom. Our initiatives in Literacy and Numeracy include students participating in extension groups in the Year 6 space, as well as various support intervention groups in our Year 1 and 2 classrooms. We are creating an inclusive environment for learning that focuses strongly on differentiation, ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive.

We also have several community events coming up shortly. Please keep an eye on your Compass Newsfeed for details about the following events:

- Week 3: Women of Wollert Breakfast (Wednesday, 6th of May) and Mother’s Day Stall (Wednesday, 6th of May and Thursday, 7th of May)

- Week 4: Family Time (Thursday, 14th of May) and Colour Fun Run (Friday, 15th of May)

As a fun note, if we raise the right amount of money, I will be getting slimed for the Colour Fun Run! Stay tuned for the announcement of the next slime candidate—I’m happy to take requests from both students and parents.

We are excited to announce in the community news that our school disco raised $2,885 for new playgroup equipment after all expenses were deducted. This is a fantastic achievement by Team Wollert and the Parents and Friends Association. We can't wait for the next disco in 2027!

Student Expectations

As we begin a new term, we will revisit our classroom expectations and discuss what our school values mean to us. Our focus will be on the positive behaviours associated with our values of being brilliant, kind, and curious, while also emphasising the joy in our learning. We have put in a lot of effort to establish these positive behaviours in our school and kindly ask parents to remind their children of these expectations to help them make the most of their learning experience. This support also enhances our efforts in reinforcing positive behaviours through Dojo points in the classroom and Dojo cards on the playground, as well as our work within the framework of School Wide Positive Behaviour Support.

At the end of last term, we trialed a new procedure for students needing to use the toilets during the learning time. Students would walk to and from the toilets in pairs, one from each gender. Students will wait outside the toilet block if not using the toilets and return to the classroom together. This practice was implemented to ensure that children did not walk alone for health and safety reasons, and we noticed a significant decrease in damage to the toilet facilities. Students also returned to class more quickly. We will continue this trial, as it maximises learning for all students.

AEU Updates: Potential AEU Half Days Stop Work Action- Tuesday, 19th of May

I am writing to inform you, at the earliest opportunity possible, about a potential half-day stop work action planned by members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) on Tuesday, May 19th. Please note that a very high percentage of our staff are AEU members, and this may affect normal school operations.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. A few days before the stop work date, staff members will inform their sub-branch representative about their intentions regarding participation. This will help us gain a better understanding of the impact on our school, and we will communicate further details accordingly.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

ANZAC Service Held at Wollert Primary School- Thursday 23rd of April, 10.30am- 11.00am

We held an ANZAC service on Thursday at Wollert Primary School to honour all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. We acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices of all those who have served, and we owe a debt of gratitude to those who fought, endured, suffered, and died for their country over many decades.

The ceremony featured our student leaders, Hargan S, Hayden H, Mahlia W and Rimas S, who practiced over the past few days.

The ceremony included:

- Ode of Remembrance

- The Last Post

- A one-minute silence

- The Rouse

Our student leaders did a remarkable job despite technical difficulties with the microphone, leading the school in recognising the significance of the day, which will occur on Saturday, April 25th. They laid a wreath in front of the flags, which were half-mast.

Thank you to the families and students who attended the ceremony in the gymnasium, and to our leaders for guiding us in this important observance.

2027 Enrolments- Exciting News

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2027 are now open. Parents are invited to complete their child's enrolment at the school office. To do this, please fill out the school enrolment form and provide proof of your child's date of birth as well as their immunisation record. Once the enrolment process is complete, new students will be added to the register for the 2027 classes.

We will be hosting individual tours for our 2027 Foundation families on Wednesdays this term, led by a member of the Leadership Team. We believe it's important to show prospective families our learning spaces.

For planning purposes, we kindly ask that parents finalise enrolments by the end of this term. If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the enrolment process, please contact Jacinta, our Community and Enrolment Facilitator, or reach out to the school at wollert.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
