WELCOME BACK - TERM 2

Welcome back to all our students, families and staff as we begin a new term of learning and growth. I hope everyone had a restful break and is feeling ready for new growth, stronger connections and learning this term. 

We have an exciting term planned, with a range of engaging excursions and experiences for our students. I’m especially looking forward to attending the Year 5/6 camp and sharing in what is always a memorable experience. We are also preparing for our very first special lunch day, which is sure to be a highlight for our school community. Further details to come soon.

This term also provides valuable opportunities for professional learning, and I’m excited to attend several Principal conferences alongside my executive team, including a statewide conference.

I look forward to a positive and productive term as we continue working in partnership to support every student’s learning and wellbeing.

ANZAC DAY - 2026

As we acknowledge ANZAC Day, marking the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have served in times of war and conflict. This day also invites us to reflect on the lessons history teaches us — the importance of striving for peace and learning from the past.

It is also important to acknowledge the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service members, whose stories have not always been widely recognised. Indigenous Australians have served in the military since Federation in 1901, with around 1,000 enlisting during World War I and approximately 70 among those at Gallipoli. Across both World Wars, Indigenous Australians enlisted at higher rates than the broader population.

These contributions are especially significant when we consider that many of these servicemen and women fought for a nation that did not formally recognise them as citizens until 1967. Their service is an important part of our shared history and deserves recognition and respect.

In our school community, we recognise the value of respect, understanding, and acceptance of people from all cultures and backgrounds. True bravery is not only found on the battlefield, but also in our everyday actions — in choosing kindness, showing empathy, and standing up for inclusion and peace.

May we continue to learn from history and work together to build a more respectful, compassionate, and peaceful world for all.

WORLD AUTISM UNDERSTANDING and AWARENESS MONTH 

World Autism Understanding Month (WAUM) is a chance for our school community to move beyond awareness and develop a deeper, more practical understanding of autism. 

Since 2021, Aspect has recognised 2 April as World Autism Understanding Day — a time to celebrate Autistic people, recognise their strengths, and encourage a shift toward genuine understanding. 

In 2026, this has grown into a month-long focus, acknowledging that building understanding takes time.

At MPS we will continue to support our students in their everyday school life with an emphasis on respectful and inclusive interactions in our classrooms and playgrounds. 

By taking time to learn, reflect, and take positive action, we can create a school environment where all students feel understood, included, and supported — not just during this month, but every day.

I encourage families to reach out to to their child's teacher or leadership at school for further supports and how best we can work in partnership to explore individual action plans for your child to feel success at school. 

ANNUAL REPORT TO SCHOOL COMMUNITY

It is a requirement for all Victorian government schools to produce an Annual Report to the School Community each year, outlining key information about student achievement, wellbeing and engagement, including attendance data, and the school’s financial position.

The MPS Annual Report to the School Community for 2025 has now been finalised and endorsed by School Council. This report provides an important opportunity to reflect on and share the school’s progress and accomplishments with our community.

The report is presented in two sections:

1. A performance summary, highlighting the school’s results for 2025 and patterns over time.

2. An “About Our School” section, which describes key achievements and developments throughout the 2025 school year.
