The National Leadership Camp, facilitated by Burn Bright, is a highly interactive, challenging and inspiring program that brings together students from across Australia and New Zealand. The camp focuses on developing personal character, a strong sense of identity, values and purpose, while equipping students with practical leadership skills and building resilience.
Earlier this year, Year 11 student Steven Collins represented Kinross Wolaroi School at the National Leadership Camp held at Stanwell Tops, NSW. Reflecting on the experience, Steven shared:
"In early 2026, I applied to attend the National Leadership Camp, and I was thrilled that my application was successful. It was an incredible opportunity to join 120 students from across Australia and New Zealand to develop leadership skills, challenge ourselves and participate in a wide range of activities.
The theme of this year's camp was Echo, highlighting how even the smallest actions, words and choices can have a lasting impact far beyond the moment in which they occur.
One of my main goals was to step outside my comfort zone and embrace new experiences. I achieved this by meeting and working alongside students I had never met before, forming friendships that I know will continue well beyond the camp as we encourage one another on our leadership journeys. I also challenged myself by performing on stage—something I would never have previously considered—and by putting my developing leadership skills into practice while leading activities, including a gameshow.
Another goal was to strengthen my leadership skills in preparation for potential senior leadership roles at school and to develop qualities that will benefit me beyond school. Throughout the camp I learned valuable lessons about values, service, grit and vision through leadership presentations, workshops and collaborative group activities.
National Leadership Camp was an unforgettable experience, and I enjoyed it so much that I plan to apply to return next year as a mentor. I hope to support future participants so they can enjoy the same opportunities and personal growth that I experienced."
We congratulate Steven on embracing this outstanding leadership opportunity and look forward to seeing the skills and confidence he has developed continue to make a positive impact within the Kinross Wolaroi School community.

August 15 & 16 organised by Goldseekers Orienteering Club Inc.
All students from Kinross Wolaroi School are invited to participate in the NSW Schools Orienteering Championships.
The first stage of the event will be held at Vittoria on Saturday, 15 August from 12:30pm, in a bush environment to test cross-country navigation. It consists of open farmland with patches of forest and areas of granite boulders with well-defined fences and tracks. Courses are from 1.5km to 6km depending on the age class.
Stage two will be held at the Kinross Wolaroi School main campus on Sunday, 16 August from 9.30 am with a sprint and a relay race. The sprint has lots of twists and turns around the campus. The Relay consists of three runners. Courses are from 1.5km to 3km depending on the age class and will be held entirely within the school boundaries. You can organise your own school team for the relays or we can organize a team for you.
Students at Kinross Wolaroi School who are interested in trying out orienteering may come along to the arena on either Saturday or Sunday and enter on the day with no entry fee.
On the day just ask one of the helpers. You don't need to bring anything other than comfortable running clothes. The Goldseekers Club will provide a compass and timing chip.
