What: BBLLLEN Girls In Blue Program

Who: Female students in Year 9 – 12 interested in a career in the police force.

When: Tuesday 23 October, 2023

More info: The day is organised by the BBLLLEN and Leading Snr Constable Paula Fowler. It will include information sessions, tour of the Warragul Police Station and opportunity to speak with current police. The program aims to:

  • Help to address the low numbers of females applying to join the Vic Police Force
  • Provide opportunities for students to access information and visit Vic Police Stations when work experience is not easily accessible.
  • Introduce students to the diverse range of career opportunities in Vic Police.

What: Camp Seek

Who: Year 9 and 10 Girls and Non-binary young people

When and more info: Camp Seek is a STEM focussed learning and immersion program for Year 9 and 10 girls and non-binary young people (aged 14 – 16 years) taking place during the September school holidays. Participants will spend four days at SEEK HQ in Melbourne. 

Participants will learn from subject matter experts about their career journeys in tech, develop their coding, learn about real-world problem solving and put it all to use in a Create-a-Thon project with fellow Camp SEEKers. More Info: For young people, and their family supporters, navigating a pathway into a STEM career can be challenging for a range of reasons. First, STEM offers diverse options in careers, some of which are unknown or misconceived. Second, information available can be outdated, limited or misinforming depending on access to information. More info: Sponsored by the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS), SWOT Week is a not-for-profit VCE revision program where high-achieving past graduates provide quality VCE revision to high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Over the entire week, different subjects will be running comprehensive 90-120 minute workshops based on the VCAA Unit 3 and 4 curriculum at a cost of $2 per session.

What: The University of Melbourne Santos Experience Opportunities

Agriculture Experience: 3-day program at the Dookie campus between 29 November – 1 December 2023. Dookie campus is a working farm - a centre of agricultural research and teaching. You will join scientists and agricultural student mentors in hands on activities in the laboratory and paddock investigating real world issues. Activities include biodiversity, sheep science, plant science, protein content of milk, cheese making and robotic dairy. There are 35 places left and accommodation is available at an additional cost. Who: Open to current Year 9s (Year 10 2024)

More info: Expressions of interest for work experience placements in semester 1, 2024 are now open. Work experience at the Parliament of Victoria is suitable for students who are interested in a wide range of careers, including politics, multi-media, education, business, landscaping, law-making or hospitality.  Students nominate their preference for a one-week placement in either the Parliamentary Sitting Program or Parliamentary Services Program. To be eligible, students must be aged 15 years or over at the time of their placement, be a Victorian resident and a student at a Victorian secondary school. Ocean Youth Program

This amazing program is for young people who are passionate about ocean and marine life sustainability and conservation. Portsea Camp

The Camp runs weekend and holiday activities for children such as kayaking, snorkelling, high ropes, beach walks, sports etc. Young people are invited to apply to volunteer at the camps. St Johns Cadet – Youth Program

The St John's Cadet Youth Program is affiliated with St John Ambulance Australia. It offers young people aged 11 to 17 an opportunity to develop first aid and leadership skills.
