Aboriginal Dance Company - Associate Program

Angela Simon Yr 8 and Nya Quinlan Yr 9 participated in rehearsals with Bangarra for the Aboriginal Dance Company - Associate Program. This was an opportunity for Angela and Nya to experience being a member of the Aboriginal Dance Company. The girls participated in 5 days of rehearsals and have been asked back to join them for School Spectacular.

Congratulations Angela and Nya, we look forward to seeing you both dance with the Aboriginal Dance Company.

UNE OORALA EXPERIENCE DAYS....

On September 4-7, the UNE Oorala Aboriginal Centre invited students from near and far to attend four days of UNE Experience on campus. Mainly Year 10 and 11 Students from Woolgoolga, Coonamble, Tenterfield, Toormina and ASC attended the second phase of Experience Days which included visits to different faculties and taking part in activities provided.

The students are given this opportunity to attend the UNE and be taken around to campus to get an insight into life at University. They were provided with accommodation at Page/Robb College at UNE.

The Oorala team were fantastic and supplied meals, sports experience, trivia night and backpacks with a t-shirt and other goodies.

Subjects we looked at included Agriculture, Animal Science, Archaeology, Arts, Business, Chemistry, Criminology and Law, Education, Library tour, Nursing, Psychology, Sports Science and Social Work.

Ms Drieslma and myself would recommend the Experience Days for students in Yrs 10-12 if you are considering doing further education through University.

Weaving

On Wednesday the 20th September we attended a weaving workshop with our Aboriginal girls and a few staff. The workshop was run by Waabi at the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping place. Our girls attended with their Mothers, Aunties and Grandmothers. We all had a great time weaving, yarning and connecting with each other. Thank you to all who attended.
