Welcome to our brand new format of presenting our school newsletters. We hope that you enjoy and are able to easily navigate your way through the information presented.
It is amazing to think that we are coming towards the end of another busy term here at SJV and that we only have one term left for the 2023 school year! In the past few weeks, students have been participating in a number of activities such as Hoop time Basketball, District Athletics, Confirmation, Father's Day Breakfast and Book Week parades. It certainly has been an exciting couple of weeks for all involved.
I hope all the dad's had an enjoyable Father's Day last Sunday. Father's Day can hold many emotions for both men and women - those who had a loving father that passed away, those who never knew their dad, those expectantly waiting to become a dad soon, and countless other situations surrounding the father-child relationship. God can use this special day to draw us closer to Himself - the one true Father who remains faithful and full of unconditional love.
I hope all families enjoy a relaxing break and come back next term refreshed and ready for another action packed term!
Good luck to all AFL teams playing in the finals.
Grand Final Tip - Brisbane by 15 points!!!
In more exciting news, the new SJV website is now live for everyone to see. This has been a process that has taken 8 months to complete and I would like to thank those staff members involved in the creation of this wonderful depiction of what life is like at SJV. Please click on the link https://www.sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au/ to view.
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Sunday with Bishop Tony Ireland and Fr Justin. It was a lovely Mass with many staff in attendance. The candidates were most impressive with their responses and the way that they participated in the Mass.
If you haven’t already done so, could parents please complete the MACSSIS survey that was sent a couple of weeks ago. The link may be in your spam folder so please check. These need to be completed by the 15th of September. MACSSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings students, families and staff have about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne and in particular here at SJV. Please make sure that you read the letter that was emailed to you for further details.
The other week we celebrated Book Week with a dress up parade. The children and staff all looked amazing dressed up as their favourite book character on the day and thoroughly enjoyed participating in a variety of literature based activities including the Books to Life performance: Jorn’s Magnificent Imagination - Coral Vass (CBCA 2023 notable book). Thank you to Vicki Dagher for organising the book week activities and the dress up parade. The staff looked amazing dressed up as Where the Wild Things Are!!
Tomorrow , students can wear their footy colours to school to celebrate the finals. On this day we will have our footy parade at 9.15am in the MPR. Parents are welcome to attend.
Due to the inclement weather conditions tomorrow and the high winds we have had to postpone the SEDA inflatable football activities to Tuesday the 10th of October.
Also, as a part of this day, we are incorporating donations to the Choc Toss Stall for the Fete. The Choc Toss Stall is very popular at the fete, donating chocolate for the Stall is a great way to contribute to the fete and help generate profits. We kindly request your support in donating 2 blocks of chocolate per child, and return by tomorrow.
A huge thankyou to the PFA for ensuring the Father’s Day Breakfast went smoothly and was enjoyed by all of the dads.
The PFA team also did an amazing job in organising and running the Father’s Day Stall for all of our students so that they could purchase gifts for their Dads for Father’s Day. I hope all of the dads loved their gifts!
The last day of Term Three will be Friday, 15th September with students being dismissed at 1:00pm.
The first day of Term Four for all students will be Monday, 2nd October
Thursday 12th of October is the SJV Around the World Art Tour
As we begin the process of planning ahead for 2024 classes, I ask any families who know that they will not be returning to St. John Vianney's in 2024 please inform me as soon as possible. principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au
Please ensure that your child/ren arrive for school on time (between 8.30am and 8.45am - not before 8.30am) each day and that you are at school to collect your children at 3.30pm. There are staff members on duty from 8.30am – 8.55am each morning and after school until 3.45pm. If you are running late to pick up your child (after 3.45pm) please contact the office as soon as possible. Please try and arrange appointments and activities around school times to minimise distractions in the classrooms.
It is important that your children are on time every day. Children who are late miss out socialising with their classmates and can have trouble settling in and mastering routines. Being late can throw off their whole morning or even their day, especially if the late commute to school was stressful. Children arriving late also interrupt their teachers and the learning and teaching of all the other children in their class.
On those occasions when you are running late to school, parents or guardians need to accompany their children into the School Office where they sign in their child in. Parents taking children early prior to 3.30pm must also enter via the School Office and complete the same process.
