Supporting the teenage learner when they don’t ‘need you anymore’!

Rowena Morris

7-12 Teaching and Learning Leader

The teenage years are tough for everyone involved – mostly for the teenager themselves, but also for everyone around them.

It can be hard to know how to support someone who often (loudly!😉) tells you they do not need or want your support.

However, it is really important that parents, carers and teachers continue to engage with the learning of teenagers and support them in their ongoing academic, social and emotional development, during what can be transformative years and a significant predictor of future health, wealth and happiness.

Things we know about the teenage years…
Things we know about effective school and home partnerships…
How do I support my teenager while still supporting their independence and autonomy?

At Kyabram P-12 College, we are committed to supportive partnerships between home and school and firmly believe that we are all in this journey from childhood to independent adulthood together, placing your student in the centre of a supportive and productive relationship to ensure that through commitment and collaboration from parents, students and staff we will achieve a successful future for all students
