Updates around the college

Dear families and community members,

It has been busy yet a fun and exciting term for all.  This week was Book Week where many dressed up for the parade on Monday. Some students received a beanie for being their wonderful, kind, caring selves, and our captains had lunch with Legacy Ladies and Legatees.  Another great week.

Book Week.  Read, Grow, Inspire.

Each year, we run a Book Week with a theme.  This year, it was this week, and the theme was Read, Grow, Inspire.  To start the week off, we had a Book Week Parade on Monday morning.  What a way to start the week!

Without the help of our parents, carers, and older siblings, our students would not have looked so wonderful.  Thank you to everyone that helped to support this event.  Here are some of the photos from the parade.

Term 3 values

Our students have been focusing on a school value each week with a particular theme. Our staff are supporting our students by drawing their attention to these values to develop their skills. Here is the term outline for every family to reference.  This was Week 7, so we have focused on Community.

Beanies

In recent weeks, I have asked our staff to nominate students who have been consistently demonstrating our school values, showing kindness towards others, and being generous and caring of others around them.  Students nominated have been receiving a free beanie from me. It has been a great privilege to visit classes, announce the recipients and read out the reasons for each student receiving a beanie.  It was terrific to see other students applaud them.  Here are just some of the students that have received a beanie so far.

I have more beanies to give out and will have more photos to share in our next edition of Channels.

Legacy Lunch

On Wednesday this week, our Year 6 and 12 Captains attended a lunch with our local Legacy Ladies and Legatees.  In the lead up to next week’s Legacy Service, this was a great opportunity for our students to meet and chat with them about their past experiences, and to learn about what Legacy Week means to them.

On Thursday 31 August, we will be holding our Legacy Service at 12:15 pm. It will be held at the front of the school where all our Years 3 to 12 classes will attend, along with local Legacy Ladies and Legatees as our very special guests.

Parent/ Student/ Teacher Interviews

Firstly, thank you so much to those that were able to attend interviews on Thursday of this week.  It was a fantastic opportunity for students, families and teachers to catch up and speak about progress so far this semester.

Where possible, we want to continue to see school and home work closely together to enable positive experiences for all students and to see positive learning growth.  Parents and carers are encouraged to continue regular contact with relevant classroom/ subject teachers whenever they have any questions or want to learn more about how they can support their child at home.

Kyabram Kindergarten

This week, we have seen great progress with the building of the new kindergarten. It is due for completion in early October, near the beginning of Term 4.

Upcoming Events for our School Community

Some exciting events coming up for all to note in their calendars.  They include:

  • Aim High Concert where our Prep to Year 2 students will perform their show that they have been working hard to rehearse and remember off by heart! The concert will be shown over two nights, Wednesday 6 September and Thursday 7 September.
  • R U OK? Day is a very important day for everyone.  R U OK? Day promotes social connectedness and positive help seeking for anyone that could be feel lonely and/ or negative.  Our R U OK?  Day will be on Thursday 14 September.
  • Youth Expo will also be on Thursday 14 September.  Our Years 9 and 10 students will attend the expo during period 2 (10:00 am – 11:00 am), and then the Year 8 students will go during period 3 (11:30 am – 12:30 pm).  Further details will be on Compass over the next week or so.
  • Footy Colours Day is on the last day of term Friday 15 September.  We encourage everyone to wear their footy colours.  It can be of any football code, be it Aussie Rules, Rugby, Soccer, or Grid Iron.  We will finish at 2:20 pm on that day as it is the last day of the term.  Busses will arrive to take students home at 2:20 pm.

On behalf of the Principal Team, thank you to our students for their participation so far this term, and to our parents and carers for their support.
