Summer Uniform Changeover - 4 September 2023
Students change from Winter to Summer uniforms on the Monday following Father’s Day - 4 September 2023. Should the weather be too cold or too hot, parents may use their discretion and choose for their child to wear either the summer or winter uniform in the 2 weeks prior to or following the change-over date.
Australian Wildlife Sanctuary - Wild Rover
Kindergarten students had a fantastic day on Thursday with the Australian Wildlife Sanctuary. We were captivated the whole time and learnt all about native wildlife. We were lucky enough to get up close and personal to a Blue Tongued Lizard, Mini Crocodile, Ringtail Possum, Sugar Glider, and even a Python Snake. This amazing learning links with our Science and Technology unit of work - Living Things.
Mathematics at SJB
Stage 2 teachers have been collaboratively planning, teaching and reflecting upon student engagement in order to improve their teaching practice of Mathematics. They have been challenging students with open ended Maths tasks. Teachers begin their lessons by activating students' prior learning before they are given open-ended tasks that may be solved in a variety of ways. Students are challenged to persevere, take risks and use prior knowledge. They often find themselves in the learning pit before teachers gather student samples to explicitly teach strategies to apply to the open ended tasks. Students are then able to return to their work and confidently attempt the tasks again. They are asked to show their solutions in more than one way. Mathematics can be shown with concrete materials, drawn with visuals, explained verbally and/or written in equation form (number sentences). Here are some of our stage 2 teachers in action with their students.
