Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome back to another action-packed PE Newsletter! We have seen so much progress throughout this term, and the students are smashing it!
Congratulations to our Regional Athletics team! Our students represented our school with pride and passion and have left us very proud of their efforts! Special shoutout to Sierra, who is off to State for Discus and Shotput!
Preps, Grade One and Grade Two
The Preps, Ones are currently working on their locomotor skills. They are focusing on their running and the skills that they can use while running. Students have been practicing through tag games and have focused on sprinting and dodging. Following tag games, they are moving on to throwing in game situations. They have been practicing their throwing in the game, and clean up the yard, which forces students to aim high to throw their object over the “fence”.
The Twos are currently practicing their single-handed strike. They have moved from stationary balls to a ball feeder, throwing the ball into the air for them to hit. This week, they focused on the ball being fed to them and then striking the ball over a net to start practicing power and accuracy.
Grade 3s to 6s
Grades 3 and 4 have continued their striking and fielding units by playing games of tee ball and learning the skills that come with it. They have focused on stroking the ball for accuracy to elude fielders, as well as on how to field effectively using relay fielding to move the ball quickly to beat the batter to the base.
The Grades 5s are continuing their cricket development with a focus on batting and moving into game strategy.. The students have been practicing their striking and finding gaps to increase runs. They have also worked on their fielding techniques to restrict run scoring.
The Grade 6s have been practicing their softball skills. They have had an extra focus on striking the ball with accuracy to maximise runs. They have also been practicing their pitching skills, so they are able to prevent the batter from making it to first base.
Superstar of the Week
Saanvi from grade 4! Last Tuesday, Saanvi competed at the Regional Athletics carnival, which took place at the Keilor Athletics track. Saanvi competed in Shotput, 100m and 200m.
