Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families, we hope you’re enjoying this wild and windy weather
It has been another busy fortnight in Performing Arts.
Prep students have been continuing their exploration of Drama. They have learned that drama involves acting – pretending to be or do something. In acting, we use our faces, bodies, and voices to create characters and show emotions. These activities involve discussion and brainstorming about the kinds of feelings you can express and how best to express it, which is also great for our Preppie’s growing emotional vocabulary.
Grade 1 is continuing their puppetry unit and has begun to look at one specific type of puppetry called ‘Ventriloquism’. Ventriloquism involves the puppeteer using special techniques to give the impression that their puppet is talking. It’s tricky to learn but a lot of fun!
Grade 2 students have expanded on the puppetry skills developed in grade one by working with scripts and puppets to create short performances. They are practising how to use acting skills, such as voice, and to make their puppet stories entertaining and expressive. Our 1s and 2s have also been viewing and discussing a range of puppetry performance videos.
Grade 3 students are continuing their improvisation investigations, learning how to think on their feet, build ideas collaboratively, and make creative choices on the spot, while our grade 4 students have started looking at scripts and acting, focusing on characterisation, voice projection, and how to use their settings to tell a story as they prepare short dramatic scenes. Our grade 3 and 4 students have also been exposed to a variety of cultural drama performance videos, including those from Australian Indigenous peoples.
Grade 5 and 6 students are continuing their filmmaking units. In grade 5, their focus is on developing their own story, learning about story structure, camera angles, and shots.
Grade 6 students are taking their skills to the next level by developing storyboards from scripts and preparing to direct and film their own short projects.
Another busy and creative fortnight!
See you in the Performing Arts room!
