Grade 6 Community News

As we approach the middle of Term 4, it’s wonderful to see our Grade 6 students embrace their final weeks of primary school with such positivity and purpose. The classrooms are buzzing with learning, creativity, and teamwork as students prepare for upcoming events such as Graduation and the Funfields excursion. It’s a busy and exciting time of year and we’re so proud of the way everyone is finishing strong and supporting one another.
Reading
In Reading, we have continued with our poetry unit. Students have been exploring poetry inspired by music, particularly the rhythms and emotions of blues and jazz. They have studied the works of poets such as Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks, examining how sound, rhythm, and voice shape meaning. Using these musical influences as inspiration, students have begun experimenting with their own poetic writing, capturing mood and movement through words.
Writing
In Writing, our focus for the term remains our poetry scrapbooks. Students have been exploring the features of different poetic forms while reflecting on their primary school journey. In Week 3, we worked on our Prep poems, capturing early memories of starting school. This week, students have been writing their Grade Two poems, drawing on fun experiences and memorable moments from that year. Each poem adds a new layer to their scrapbook, showcasing growth, creativity, and a personal touch. Can you also help them find any photos or memories (awards, certificates, ribbons) they want to include in their scrapbook?
Maths
In Maths, we have recently finished our unit on data and statistical investigations, where students explored different types of data and how to present them effectively. This week, we have begun our new unit on fractions, decimals, and percentages. Students started by exploring percentages, learning how they represent parts of a whole and how to find simple percentages of numbers. This new unit is helping students make real-world connections between fractions, decimals, and percentages in everyday contexts.
Sport
Well done to the Boys Tennis team, who made it through to the regional tournament by winning the Wyndham Division Tennis tournament. Shout out to the girls' team who also came second at the regional level. We wish the boys all the best when they play in early November.
Graduation
Thank you to everyone who supported our Halloween Dress Up Fundraiser.
A reminder that graduation ticket requests will close on Friday, 31st October. After this date, we will need some time to collate numbers and determine how many extra tickets are available.
Please do not contact the school office regarding extra graduation tickets, as this only slows the process down. Once we have finalised the numbers, we will email families directly to confirm whether you will receive extra tickets and how many have been allocated. We will also put out a compass post to let you know that these emails have been sent.
Reminders
Funfields payment: Due 26th November, 2025
Graduation payment: Due 25th November 2025
Prep photos: Please send in Prep photos for the Graduation Slideshow ASAP via Google Classroom or school email.
Thank you for your continued support,
PLC 6
