Year 5/6 News

Writing

Students in Grade 5/6 are learning how to write a text analysis by exploring their favourite picture story books. They are carefully examining how authors and illustrators work together to create meaning through words and images. As part of this learning, students are identifying the key themes in their chosen stories, analysing how the illustrations support and enhance these ideas, and discussing the language choices that help shape the reader’s understanding. They are also considering the author’s point of view and the messages being communicated through the text.

Once completed, each student’s final text analysis will be displayed in the school library alongside their chosen picture story book. This will allow other students to read the analyses before borrowing the books, helping them gain deeper insight and appreciation for the stories. Through this project, students are developing their ability to analyse texts thoughtfully and to communicate their understanding effectively.
