ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION AT SCHOOL

Non-prescribed medication

In line with updated advice from our governing body, DOBCEL, schools are no longer permitted to administer non-prescribed medication during school hours.

If your child requires medication throughout the day, we will contact you to come to school to administer the medication personally or if the need is warranted to collect your child.

Please note: School and CEB staff are not allowed to store or administer any non-prescribed medications, including common analgesics such as paracetamol or aspirin. These medications can mask the symptoms of more serious illness or injury and therefore, must not be used without appropriate medical oversight.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping all children safe and well.

Prescribed medication

From time to time children may be required to take a prescribed medication during the school day. Our administration staff are happy to assist in this area, however, we need to be extremely careful with medicines, as I’m sure parents can appreciate. Parents must complete a written form detailing dosage, timing etc. This form is available from the school office. I would recommend dropping into school with the form. A face to face chat about giving your child a prescribed medication is preferable.

A reminder to Parents/Carers to complete a 'Parent Notified Absence' in PAM or phone the School office - 52 315292

before 10:00am the day of your child's absence.

This is an important reporting requirement.

arriving late to school
picked up and returned during school hours
leaving early from school

Staff members supervise students from 8:30am until 3:30pm.
The school cannot take responsibility for the wellbeing and safety of children before 8:30 am.
Students must be picked up promptly following the 3:15pm bell.
Five staff are on duty at recess and lunch times.
No child is to leave school before the dismissal bell unless permission has been granted. In these circumstances, the student must be signed out in the register at the Office. Thank you for your support in all these school matters!

PERIODS OF STUDENT ABSENCE

Longer absences, up to 14 days can be entered in to your PAM account under ‘Multi-Day entry’ or feel free to contact the Front office (Ph: 52 315292) if your need assistance.

If a student is going to be away for a period longer than two weeks, a signed note or

email: (office@shcolac.catholic.edu.au) is required stating the dates of absence. Administration staff will enter these dates in to your child/ren attendance records.

In keeping with Child Safety regulations, we need all volunteers who are to be with children eg: walking to swimming, going on excursions and camps, being a guest speaker here at school, cooking hot dogs etc. to have a Working With Children's card. These really are a handy thing to have now, as they are required by many sporting and other clubs, and they are quite simple to apply for.

It is an online application and the process is this:

Go to http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

1. Fill in the application form and verify your identity online.

2. Check your inbox for an email from workingwithchildren@smarteform.com.au with instructions on how to finalise your application at Australia Post.

3. Attend a participating Australia Post outlet, have your photo taken

(all of this process is no charge to you).

END OF DAY ROUTINE

If your child needs to change their ‘End Of Day Routine’ please confirm the change to the School Office before 3:00pm.

It can be very difficult for our staff members and distressing for the children if they are not sure of their destinations.

Please use the email below, including your child's name, class and new pick up point. Also indicate if your child is NOT aware of this change so they can be notified.
