As we study the Local Surrounds Main Lesson little animals have visited like this baby blue tongue and the Yeperenye caterpillars. We have begun recorder playing and the tower of music is shown here, you can see where all the characters live in the tower. In this way the children’s imagination is brought to life and their engagement is strengthened.

At the parent meeting we leant the correct finger positions for the recorder, please remind your child how to hold and care for the recorder when they go home. We continue to share fruit at story time and the picture shows how the children have decorated the story candle. It is one of the more reverential moments in our busy day.

We also welcome our new assistant teacher Grace, who has bought her own special gifts to the class. Grace took us on a walk to the Labyrinth at Campfire of the Heart and the children demonstrated excellent respectful silent, mindful walking. Grace also takes the painting lessons, as she has a special interest in the arts, having come through the school herself.

In our English practice lessons, we are scaffolding the children’s writing with written versions of their own text which they then transcribe into their main lesson book. In this way they are writing what they say, you can ask them to read their own writing when they bring the books home.

In other lessons they are just having a go at writing, whatever letters they can write to get an idea of the sounds needed to make words, Kid Writing this is called. Other lessons focus on word groups, or letters and words that contain them. See the ‘e’ picture. We are sounding out, having a go, copying own text and decoding whenever possible.

In maths practice lessons we are focusing on division. Of all the processes this and multiplication have been the most challenging. Always concrete / physical counters are present as we tackle real world scenarios. Usually the distribution of wealth. We skip count the times tables for 2,3,4 and 5. After which we recite the tables up to a certain point, while doing body percussion and reverse back again. For many this is still quite difficult, much repetition and practice over the years will overcome the challenges.

We celebrated Diwali Festival last week which was such a fun and happy day. The children made beautiful little lanterns and ate delicious food.  A big thankyou to Gill family and community for the lovely food and joyful atmosphere, the class fundraised over $300 on the day which is really appreciated.
