💛 Year 4 – Building Empathy and Belonging

This term in The Resilience Project, our Year 4 students are learning about empathy and the importance of belonging to a community. Feeling part of a community helps children feel safe, valued, and supported — it gives them a sense of connection and purpose.

Through class discussions and activities, students are exploring the many communities they belong to — such as their family, class, school, and sports teams — and reflecting on how each one plays a role in their lives.

They’re also learning that even small actions can help build a stronger sense of belonging for everyone. Smiling at someone new, including others in a game, offering to help, listening carefully, or showing kindness to a classmate are all simple ways children can make others feel seen and valued.

By understanding and practising empathy, our Year 4s are discovering that caring for others not only strengthens their communities, but also makes them feel happier and more connected themselves.
