The first two rounds have been played for the 2026 season and there have been some sensational results and much improvement shown in all teams.
Highlights of Round 1 included great wins from the 1sts and 2nds. The 1sts were up against Cowra, the winners of last years competition. Within 20 minutes they were up 4-0 with goals to Will Hoskins (2), Harry Chapman and Hamish Hall. Along with great attacking verve and hard work from the midfield the defense was rock solid. It was great to see debuts from Will Hoskins and Ollie Hyde. The second half was a little more difficult as Cowra poured on the pressure but KWS ran out 6-2 winners.
The 2nds were up against the Molong Bin-Chickens and started almost as well as the 1sts. Lachie Turnbull was able to get a hat-trick in the game and new players Fergus Whittle and Flynn Jones were excellent in both defense and attack.
The U16, U14 and U13 White teams all have had close losses in the first couple of weeks but have shown growth and improvement. As they get to know each other a little more the victories are sure to follow. The U13 White team had a hard fought loss to our new rivals OAGS but the all female team worked hard and the victories are sure to follow.
U13 Blue have been the standout team this season. Their training intensity has been taken into their games. In the 1st game of the season they defeated CYMS 5-1 with an amazing scorpion kick goal by Tom Gibson and last weekend defeated Ex-Services 7-0 with both Tom Gibson and Reuben Toohey scoring hat-tricks and Marlon Zelinski with the other. The impressive nature of these victories is underlined by only having one goal scored against them. A great start to the season.
The season is well and truly underway, with all teams having commenced competition over the past three weeks. It has been fantastic to see players training with enthusiasm and commitment, and it has been particularly pleasing to watch teams come together, forming new bonds and friendships.
Recently, seven Kinross Wolaroi students represented the school at the NSW CIS Hockey Championships held at Moorebank. Congratulations to Phoebe Hunter, Miller Byrne, Laura Klein, Stella Mitchell, Isabelle Provost, Ingrid West and Mila Yabsley-Bell on their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
A special congratulations goes to Isabelle Provost, who has been selected in the U15 NSW CIS team to attend the NSW All Schools Championships in Newcastle later this month. This is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful reflection of both Isabelle’s dedication and the strength of hockey at Kinross Wolaroi.
Last weekend, a number of students represented Orange at the NSW State Championships in Parkes. The girls performed strongly across the weekend, competing in several challenging matches.
Following the championships, Stella Mitchell has been selected as a member of the 2026 U14 Girls NSW Pathways and Performance Squad. She will attend upcoming training sessions and selection events in Taree over the coming weeks. Congratulations to Stella on this outstanding achievement - a fantastic recognition of her hard work and talent. Well done.

On Monday and Tuesday last week we had 15 representatives at the CIS Swimming Championships. The team was: Pippa Bailet, Lucy Campbell, Scarlett Cantello, Anna Clunas, Ella Hunter, Freddie Littlejohn, Emma Love, Grace Lowther, Tom McIsaac, Freddie Mendl, Mackenzie Miller, Chloe Provost, Izzy Spliet, Mila Staniforth & Rose Turner.
Special mentions to Tom McIsaac who finished the meet with 1x Gold, 1x Silver & 1x Bronze, & the Senior girls relay teams placing 4th & 5th.
Congratulations & fingers crossed for the team announcement later this week.
Blue Before You: Culture in Action
Our rugby program continues to be defined not just by results on the scoreboard, but by the way our players live out the 'Blue Before You' philosophy each and every week. Across all age groups and teams, the culture on display this season has been something of which to be genuinely proud, built through consistent behaviours, quiet leadership and a strong sense of collective responsibility.
A special acknowledgement must go to Katie Lawler, Zara Bruem and Girls Rugby Captain, Grace Shea, assistant coaches of our girls’ teams. The energy, care and professionalism they have brought to their new roles has been outstanding. Their commitment to learning their craft, building connection, and prioritising team-first values is clearly reflected in the way our girls prepare, compete and represent the program. I am also incredibly proud of the Open Girls 2s, many of whom played their first match against one of the best teams in the competition. It was a baptism of fire, yet they demonstrated Kinross Wolaroi School core values of courage, resilience and commitment by continuing to turn up and compete. Best of luck to the Open Girls 1s as they look to continue their strong form and seek redemption on behalf of the Open Girls 2s against the Vikings in the ACT.
I would also like to publicly commend Freddie Jones and Toby Chase for consistently living the #BlueBeforeYou ethos. Always the first to help pack up and quick to support others, Freddie and Toby put their age group first and lead through their actions rather than words. Thank you both for the standard you set and the positive impact you have on those around you.
From the sidelines, there have been many moments that highlight how deeply these values are taking root, particularly within our 3rds and 4ths. Players such as Archie Ferguson and Levi Cheney, among many others, have taken ownership by leading chants, bringing energy and unity to the program. These groups have also willingly led the clean-up of the stands between the 1st and 2nd XV matches and post-game, with minimal pushback when asked, an impressive sign of shared accountability. It has also been pleasing to see the wider school community allowing the 1st XV to have their moment together after a win before celebrations expand. This respect for the team and the occasion speaks volumes about our collective understanding of what matters. The way our players have rallied around injured teammates has been another highlight. Injured players, including Hugh Nash, Hamish Mitchell, Henry McCardell, Mathew Lowther, and Fergus Attenborough, some of whom have stepped into meaningful non-playing roles, and the support shown to them reflects a strong sense of belonging and care.
In addition, the 3rds and 4ths have also embraced the responsibility of “sweeping the sheds” when required. Across the program and without being prompted, players have openly shown appreciation to our groundskeeper, Mr Dave Bonham, for his exceptional preparation of our fields. Our match-day operations have also been greatly supported by student officials. A special mention to George Anderson, who admirably assistant refereed three games during Trinity Grammar School’s visit, and to all of our student referees who have stepped up recently. Their willingness to serve has been invaluable and deeply appreciated. This is culture in action, quiet, consistent, and something we can all be proud of. Well done to all.
