Year 11 Legal Studies
On Tuesday of Week 2, our Year 11 Legal Studies students visited the Federal Court of Australia and the New South Wales Parliament.
At the Federal Court, Justice Perry addressed the group, providing valuable insight into the role of a federal judge and the complexities of balancing the rights of society with those of the individual—particularly in immigration cases. Students then had the opportunity to observe proceedings in a case involving Woolworths and the ACCC, where allegations centred on misleading discount pricing. Watching a Woolworths executive being cross-examined was a highlight for many. Smaller groups also observed parts of a murder trial and an immigration matter, offering a broad perspective on the work of the courts.
Following lunch in Hyde Park, the group travelled to New South Wales Parliament to deepen their understanding of the legal system, with a particular focus on the relationship between the legislature and the judiciary. Students participated in role-plays in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, using Hansard extracts from a debate on cost of living and housing to step into the roles of Members of Parliament.
Our Year 11 students were highly engaged, participated authentically, and took full advantage of the opportunity to ask insightful questions of the experts they encountered. This experience will serve as a strong foundation as they continue their Legal Studies course and progress towards their HSC in 2027.

Compass
Stage 4 Compass classes engaged in an activity last week - the ‘Wall of Awesomeness’. Using the Visible Wellbeing SEARCH framework, students have been learning to ‘strength spot’ with the goal to identify, recognise and be grateful for the strengths of others and the connections we have. This term’s concept of ‘Belonging’ is focused on fostering inclusion, respect, and a sense of community.
Kids Lit
by Aria Patel and Milly McLennan
This year 16 students from Kinross Wolaroi went to James Shehan Catholic High School to compete in the Kids’ Lit Quiz. This global quiz extravaganza brings together book loving students aged 10–13 from all over the world, and our teams arrived ready to shine.
Quizzes take place in countries all around the world, challenging students with a wide range of topics. In this event, participants worked through 10 distinct categories - Farming, Comic Characters, Spells, Donkeys, Science, Keys, One‑Word Titles, Sons, and Urban Myths - each containing 10 questions, for a total of 100 opportunities to test their knowledge. The competition also featured individual rounds with special bookmark prizes. Several of our students were successful in these rounds, demonstrating their extensive knowledge and strong literary skills! Every team may choose one round as a double point round. If a team won a round, then they would get to choose a book off a table, with many different choices to pick from! And the best part...
One of the four Kinross Wolaroi teams achieved first place and will now progress to the next level of the Kids’ Lit Quiz Challenge! These students are Joshua Westcott, Lizzy Harris, Mikhaela Coutts and Melanie Davies.
Congratulations to all our students who proudly represented our school at the Central West Heat of the Kids’ Lit Quiz. Your enthusiasm, teamwork, and love of reading shone through!

The World’s Greatest Shave
Congratulations to our Year 11 students who orchestrated a hugely successful fundraiser for The World’s Greatest Shave. As a community, we came together to raise $33,000 for The Leukaemia Foundation. This incredible effort will go a long way towards supporting families facing blood cancer. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the event, and to the team at Parlour O who generously came along to help with the shave.
