"If children grow up not knowing about nature and appreciating it, they will not understand it, and if they don't understand it, they won't protect it, and if they don't protect it, who will?"

-David Attenborough

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, a study conducted in 2013 estimated that 97% of Australians recycle in some form. While the study may seem outdated, it should provide hope as to how many others have aided in the fight against pollution and restoration of the world.

Meanwhile, McCarthy continues to aid in the war against the rubbish and the environmental degradation around the school. During the Thursday lunchtimes, the seeding team have been working hard to ensure a steady stream of seeds for field teams to plant and cultivate in the school nursery. The plants which start to grow are used not only around the school grounds but are now being donated to support Landcare school based projects. The current seedlings were destined to support other primary schools in the local area, such as at Kootiginal Public School.

Unfortunately, the Environmental Council has suffered a setback. A sprinkler system failure has led to a loss in a number of the seedlings. Currently, there are efforts to revive them.

Setbacks happen in all projects, so currently, the environmental field teams are working to replace the stock with a massive seeding operation.

The school recycling has resumed for this term. As of March, the number of bottles collected this year was 1128. Since the program has started, 11,618 bottles have been collected, which means that is $1128 going towards St Vincent De Paul programs, which assist the local community.

To those who have continued to support and or have begun to support the Environmental Council, we sincerely thank you for your efforts. Those actions, while they may seem small, build up over time. Your effort, along with everybody else’s, is and will continue to aid in securing a brighter future for ourselves and our descendants.

If you would like to help, please join the Environmental Council. Meetings are every Thursday, second break, in Lab 1.
