Principal's Report

As we move towards the great feast of Pentecost, we are reminded as Catholics of the importance of faith, courage and community. Pentecost marks the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, empowering them to go forth with confidence and purpose. It is a timely reminder for all of us to reflect on how we use our gifts to serve others and contribute positively to our College and wider community.

Over recent weeks, we have once again seen many examples of our students living out these values through their achievements, leadership and participation in a range of opportunities. I continue to be incredibly proud of the way our students represent the College with humility, confidence and maturity.

A special congratulations goes to Sanza, who recently represented our College at the Democracy on the Move public speaking competition. Competing against students from across the region, Sanza spoke with outstanding confidence and maturity - qualities that were commented on by many people in attendance. Sanza’s thoughtful presentation and calm presence were recognised with a runner-up placing, an exceptional achievement of which our entire College community can be proud.

Congratulations also to Aarna, Morgan, Isabella, Ruby, Annie and Ava, who have been invited to attend the Moorambilla Voices residential camps and perform in the gala concert at the iconic Sydney Opera House. This is a remarkable achievement and recognition of their musical talent, commitment and dedication. We are incredibly proud of the way these students continue to embrace opportunities and represent our College so positively.

Congratulations also to Molly, who recently travelled to Sydney to trial for the Under 16 NSWCCC basketball team. The calibre of athletes at the trials was exceptional, and Molly’s determination, skill and attitude saw her earn a place in the Probable Possibles game, showcasing the top 18 players across NSW Catholic Schools. This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to Molly’s hard work and commitment to her sport. We congratulate Molly on this amazing effort and look forward to following her future success.

Congratulations also to our MCC bands and choir who recently travelled to Gunnedah for the local Eisteddfod. Our Choir, Senior Vocal Group and Woodwind Ensemble were all awarded first place in their respective sections, while the Concert Band and Brass Ensemble achieved second-place honours. These are truly wonderful achievements and reflect the dedication, talent and countless hours of rehearsal from both our students and staff. We are incredibly proud of the way our performing arts students continue to represent the College with excellence and enthusiasm.

We would also like to acknowledge Amity, who recently competed at the NSW State Gymnastics Championships. Her outstanding results have earned her selection to attend the Australian Championships - an exceptional achievement at such a high level of competition. Congratulations Amity on this remarkable accomplishment; we are incredibly proud of your dedication, discipline and success.

Another outstanding individual is Jack in Year 11, who recently spent a week at the NSW Parliament Work Experience Program with Kevin Anderson, gaining valuable insight into how Macquarie Street operates. By all accounts, it was a highly positive and enriching experience, and we commend Jack for taking up this opportunity to deepen his understanding of civic leadership and public service. We look forward to seeing the impact this experience will have on his future aspirations and the contributions he will continue to make to our community.

Another highlight was the Year 12 annual fundraiser for the Brain Cancer Foundation. It was a fun and energetic afternoon where staff and students came together in a strong spirit of community to raise much-needed funds for brain cancer research. By 3:00pm on Friday 15 May, the College had raised close to $15,000 - a truly outstanding result. This is an inspiring achievement and a powerful example of compassion in action. We extend our sincere thanks and congratulations to Year 12 for their leadership, organisation, and generosity in supporting such an important cause.

In the sporting arena, I would also like to congratulate our Bill Turner Football squad who have progressed through to the regional final following a thrilling 1–0 victory over Oxley High School last week. It was a tightly contested match, and the team’s determination, resilience and commitment to each other shone through in a fantastic team performance. We now look forward to hosting the winner from the Armidale region in what promises to be another exciting challenge. Congratulations to all players and staff involved in this outstanding achievement.

Opportunities such as these allow our students to find their voice, challenge themselves and grow as leaders and contributors within our community. We thank all organisers involved in providing such valuable experiences for our young people and congratulate all students on their outstanding achievements and representation of the College.

Regards,
