Camp Weekaway

Camp Weekaway Reflections

Reflection By Alex:

Last week, the Year 5 and 6 students went to camp. The campsite was called Camp Weekaway because most schools stay there for a week, but our school only stays for two nights. A few weeks ago, our school asked, “Can we stay for two nights?” and Weekaway agreed.

On the first day of camp, the bus trip (which was two hours) only felt like 30 minutes because I was chatting with my friends the whole time. The first activities we did were archery and canoeing. I hit the red on the archery board, and I was really happy. When we were canoeing, I got splashed a lot, but I still had a great time.

The next day, I woke up at 5:00 am! I tried to go back to sleep, but every other Year 6, apart from me, was playing Uno Flip or Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. Have you ever played Uno Flip at 5 am?

On Day 2, we did the flying fox, hut building, bush laser tag, and the ropes course. The flying fox was super fun because I was going full speed, 50 feet in the air, and upside down! You might think this is crazy, but it was so fun. We also did laser tag in the bush, and there were little logs stacked on top of each other that everyone hid behind while shooting.

If you think that was cool, listen to what happened during the hut building. While we were building our hut, we found a perfect spot that had a naturally formed chair made out of rocks. We also did the ropes course, and while I was trying to help Benji, he said he needed no help and completed the course like it was a piece of cake!

Reflection By Spencer:

Camp was super fun—we had so many activities! There was a flying fox, glider possums, bush laser tag, hut building, archery, and canoeing. We also had a night walk, and there were games we could play during our free time. Everyone had so much fun, and it was amazing.

My favourite activity was definitely bush laser tag. There were two teams—red and blue. Each team member had 10 lives and a medic box to respawn. Whichever team had the fewest respawns won. Then there was FFA (Free For All), where it was every person for themselves.

My next favourite was the flying fox. It went for about 75 metres and was exhilarating. On my second try, I figured out how to hang upside down, and it was super fun!

The food was pretty good—there was spaghetti and pancakes, and there were also snacks.

Overall, camp was super fun!

Reflection By Xavier L:

Last week, from the 22nd to the 24th of March, the Year 5/6 students went to Weekaway for camp! We had a great time and were very lucky to be there. We had an instructor called Paige, who guided us through all the activities and made me feel safe and confident to try them.

My highlight of the camp was the flying fox because the zipline was massive and it took 20 seconds to get down, yes, a whole 20 seconds! The food was really good, and I enjoyed it. We had spaghetti, pancakes, nachos, hot dogs, pasta, and pizza.

We also had a lot of free time where we could play volleyball, basketball, and gaga ball. Gaga ball is a game played in sand where you have to get people out by hitting the ball at their legs.

Camp Weekaway was really fun, and I would definitely go there again.
