Year 3

It’s been a fantastic start to the term in Grade 3 and we have already been busy with lots of exciting learning!

In Reading, we have been exploring information texts and learning about different text features such as headings, subheadings, diagrams and captions. These features help us to find and understand information more easily. We have also been working in our reading groups, where we practise our skills together and support each other. A big focus for us has been improving our fluency, using our expression, accuracy and pace to sound like smooth, confident readers.

In Writing, we have started creating our own informative texts. We are learning how to include important features like clear headings, interesting facts and helpful diagrams. It’s been great to see everyone becoming more confident at sharing their knowledge in their writing.

In Maths, we have been learning about time, including reading clocks and understanding how we use time in our everyday lives. We have also been practising addition and subtraction using bar models to help us visualise problems. Alongside this, we’ve been exploring fact families to see how numbers are connected and how they can help us solve problems more efficiently.

It has been such a fun and positive start to the term, and we are all excited for the learning and experiences still to come!

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4

Welcome back to another exciting term in Grade 4!

We’re off to a fantastic start, and there is so much fun learning happening in our classroom this term.

In Reading, we are diving into the world of Greek mythology. Students are exploring famous myths and discovering what makes these stories so powerful and memorable. We’ve been reading Theseus and the Minotaur and learning new vocabulary like “labyrinth”, while also discussing characters and their traits. It’s been great to see students so engaged in these fascinating stories!

In Writing, we are becoming information experts! Students are learning how to create their own informative texts by building important research skills. So far, we’ve been practising how to skim and scan for key information, take clear notes, and research specific topics to support our ideas.

In Mathematics, we are exploring multiplication and shape. Students are building confidence with their multiplication facts and using arrays to help solve both multiplication and division problems. In our shape unit, we are learning all about 2D shapes and composite shapes, including creating our own designs. We are also exploring movement in shapes, such as parallel lines and half and quarter turns, and what these look like in real life.

In Humanities, we are investigating important concepts such as colonies, navigation, and economic resources. Students are also learning about what Australia was like before colonisation, including how resourceful and skilled First Nations peoples were. They have been busy researching and creating informative posters to share their learning.

In Science, we will be exploring forces and how they impact the way things move and interact in the world around us.

In Health, our focus is on identity and wellbeing, helping students to understand themselves, build confidence, and develop positive habits.

Year 5

This term, we have been reading the hybrid texts about the ANZACS and another titled Azaria. We have been understanding the perspectives of real people through these texts. Now we are focussing on figurative language.

In Writing, we are using the TEEL structure to write about dingoes and Uluru which links to our reading of Azaria.

Year 6 Canberra Camp

Last week the year 6’s were up early Monday morning and making our way on the bus to Canberra!

On our first full day at camp we visited Parliament House, high court of Australia and the Australian war memorial. We attended a last post ceremony, and 2 students were able to lay a wreath in respect to those who fought for our country.

During our tour of Parliament House and we role played a situation in which we debated whether or not a certain law should be passed. In the high court of Australia, we learnt about the constitution, and the different rules that make up our country. We returned to our camp for dinner then straight back on the bus to Mount Ainslie look out.

On the third day we were up early to drive to the Australian Royal Mint. We learnt how coins are made and how they chose the design to go on them. After that we went to the National Gallery of Australia, we learnt about protest art, and how hard it really is to make.

After that, we went to Questacon, we explored the many rooms and even went on the 6.7 metre slide they had. After dinner we went to go play glow in the dark mini golf, where we enjoyed competing against each other for first place.

On the last day we went to the AIS, (Australian Institution of sport) where we saw several athletes training in gymnastics, volleyball and swimming and even got to take part in some interactive sports games as well.

Then, at the old Parliament House, we learnt about the difference between the governor generals over the years while sitting in the old Senate room. We also learnt about the impact we have on the democracy in Australia. Then, we visited National Museum of Australia, we learnt about several different active citizens, and how to be one ourselves.

Thanks to our teachers for the hard work you put in, thanks to the best bus driver Jason for driving us around all week.
