Principals' Message

Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Pride, Optimism

 Hello Parents and Friends,

There are only two weeks left in this term, yet there is so much more to take place at TPPS.  Our JSC have done a fantastic job arranging a sausage sizzle and dress up day for next Thursday.  The theme of the special day to dress up as something that starts with the first letter of your name.  As well as the sausage sizzle, the JSC ask for all students to bring a gold coin donation to raise funds for ‘300 Blankets’.  This charity supports Victorians experiencing or at risk of homelessness.  This was an excellent choice by our student leaders as this is something that is currently affecting so many people and children.  To learn more about this organisation or to donate, please click here.

Over the past two weeks, our regular Maths lessons have stopped and all students have been undertaking Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) projects.  the MTQ is an annual activity open to all primary and secondary students.  Students and classes select their own investigation topic based on their personal learning interests and apply mathematics in context. They understand and discover how mathematics is used and found in the world around them.  Our Grade Prep – 4 students undertake class projects while our senior students undertake individual or group investigations. Our students look forward to the MTQ every year as it is fun and exciting way to learn Maths.  Templestowe Park has been the most successful school in this competition over the past 6 years.  We have had numerous ‘State Champions’ and ‘Outstanding School’ awards. We are so proud of our teachers and students for their outstanding work.  To learn more about our achievements in the MTQ, please click here.  We cant wait to see the 2026 projects!

Our Grade 5/6 students are finishing up winter interschool sports and we have teams that have qualified for the grand final.  We wish these teams the very best for their big games.  In the final week of Term 2, our Grade 3-4 and Grade 6 students will all be participating in our Water Safety program at Aquarena.  Additionally, our Grade 6 Debating Team will be participating in the Regional Debating Day at Templestowe Park PS on Tuesday 23 June. This provides our Grade 6 students with their first experience of debating against other schools and with official adjudicators.  We wish the team the very best and we know they will love this experience.

Next week is our ‘Planning Week’ at TPPS.  This is the week where our teachers take a day to review this term’s learning and to plan for Term 3. On this day, our students will have a full day of specialists so there will be a different timetable for next week.

We have had such a wonderful Term 2 and we are excited for the final two weeks.

Semester 1 Parent/Teacher Interviews

Gallery Image

Please keep free if possible the evening of Wednesday June 24th (to 4:30 pm) and Thursday June 25th (to 7:30 pm) free for Parent Teacher Interviews.  The mid-year student reports will be available on Compass on Friday June 19th  so there will be an opportunity to formally meet with your child’s teacher the following week.  As always, bookings for interviews will be made on Compass and this can commence from Monday.

Specialist teachers are also available for interviews.  There are five-minute time slots available to potentially meet with specialist teachers however, this meeting time is more about any questions you may have about the specialist program or if there is something of concern about your child in that specific specialist area.  E.g. your child may need to develop their fundamental motor skills and you would like to ask the PE teacher for specific advice.  Time does not permit every family meeting with specialist teachers.  If there is a matter of high importance, please feel free to make a booking with a specialist teacher.  One of the specialist teachers may have also contacted you and requested you to make a booking.

On Compass, two different events will appear.  One for classroom teacher bookings and the other for specialist teacher bookings.

Student Free Day – Friday 28 August

Before and After School Supervision by Parents

Student safety at Templestowe Park PS  is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at 8:30am.  Any child arriving before this time must be supervised by an adult.  The school is unable to take any responsibility for student safety before this time.

After school: School grounds are supervised until 3:45pm. After this time, any student that is not supervised by an adult will be brought up to the school office and a phone call will be made to their parents/guardians to collect them.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy please click here. This policy includes our student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.

School Review - Term 3

Gallery Image

Every Victorian Government school must undertake a School Review every four years. Our School Review has been set for the 29th of July and 12th of August. 29th July is a 2-hour meeting and 12th of August a full day.  This is a short review as the Department of Education has identified the school as performing very well.  Some school reviews are undertaken over many days.

Families will have an opportunity to provide feedback as part of the Review through a parent forum.  We will inform the community of this date and time.  Additionally, I will be encouraging every family to complete the 2026 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey in Term 3.  Traditionally, we have low numbers of families completing this survey.

2026 Government Schools Principals Conference

Gallery Image

Last week, Brian and I attended the Victorian Government School Principals Conference. This annual conference provides principals with the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers on current education trends impacting our schools and the broader community. AI was a hot topic and particularly how quickly it is moving ahead. The Department acknowledged that they have been very cautious in their approach to AI, and that most schools, including our own, are already exploring how we can best use AI to benefit students. This is a rapidly moving area and schools are now beginning to collaborate on the delivery of AI that is purposeful, accurate, and enhances learning. This will be an area that will inform our practice over the coming years and there is no doubt that our students will be experimenting as well. Part of our role will be to provide students with the tools they need to ensure they use AI in a safe and productive manner.

Principals' Award

At our Assembly last week, Bruno S received the Principals' Award. Bruno is one of the most polite, kind, and respectful students at TPPS. He has had an amazing year so far in Year 5, giving lots of things a go and trying his best even when things feel hard. Bruno has worked hard to improve his school attendance, which has helped him build friendships with his classmates. We are so proud of you, Bruno, and you should be proud of your achievements this year too. We are very lucky to have her here at TPPS!

Have a fantastic weekend!
