Classroom Activities

Year 10 Personal Growth Primary School Visits
Year 10 Personal Growth students have recently been putting the Barefoot Investor principles into action through volunteering in the local community.
As part of Step 4 of the program, students are encouraged to complete volunteer work before moving out of home and becoming independent adults. While many students are already heavily involved in local sporting clubs, the class was given the opportunity to experience a different form of volunteering over the past three weeks.
Students spent time assisting in classrooms at both Donald Primary School and St Mary’s Primary School. The visits quickly became a highlight for the Year 10 students, who thoroughly enjoyed returning to their former schools and working alongside younger students.
Many students commented on how smart and engaged the primary students were in their learning, as well as how excited they were to have the secondary students in their classrooms.
A big thank you goes to both Donald Primary School and St Mary’s Primary School staff and students for supporting this valuable community program and welcoming our students so warmly.
Year 10 PEUltimate Frisbee SEPEP
During PE classes this term the Year 10 class has undertaken a Sport Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP) on the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. Students were given the opportunity to practice the skills necessary to play the game such as passing and catching, with varying levels of success.
Students were also responsible for set up and pack down of the playing area, selecting sides and umpiring of matches. Throughout the program students displayed improvement in not only the skills required to play the game and tactics that would be successful but also an increase in confidence in umpiring as well as taking on organisational roles.
As the teams would chop and change between the different games that were played, there was not clear winner, instead a number of awards were awarded to students as they highlighted certain aspects of their game:
“General’s Orders”, for ensuring everyone knew where they needed to be and what they needed to do: Milla
“Best Oakley B Award”, for being the Best Oakley out on the field at all times: Oakley
“The Smiling Assassin”, for quietly going about her business and doing it well: Sophie
“The Score Keeper”, for always ensuring the score was correct and accurate, Zachariah
“The Midas Touch”, everything he caught turned to gold (goals): Daniel
“The Karate Kid”, for always making sure she was “balanced”: Victory
“Best Team Player”, didn’t matter whose team he was on, he made sure everyone was included: Hugo
“He’s actually pretty good at this sport”, for surprising even himself at how good he was: Myles
“The Acrobat”, for being willing to put his body through many different shapes for the sport, Ryder
“Biggest Impact” for coming in last minute and making an immediate “Splash”: Elijah
“The Get There Award”, for making some of the best passes in the game, if only the other could “get there”: Ryan
“The Best & Fairest”, for taking on and understanding how to play the game the quickest, Jack
“Best FIFO player”, for only playing a portion of the season due to other commitments (Biology), Halle”
