Year 9 and 10

As we come to the end of a busy and rewarding Term 2, we'd like to congratulate all of our Year 9 and 10 students on their efforts and achievements throughout the semester.
This term has been filled with a wide range of learning opportunities, excursions, sporting events and co-curricular activities that have challenged students to step outside their comfort zones, build new skills, and strengthen relationships with their peers and teachers. It has been wonderful to see so many students demonstrating resilience, responsibility and a willingness to embrace new experiences.
As we head into the holiday break, we encourage students to take some time to rest, recharge and reflect on their progress so far this year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 3, with plenty of opportunities ahead, including the continuation of the Year 9 Naarm Program and, for our Year 10 students, their last semester as middle school students.
We wish all of our students and families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break and thank you for your ongoing support throughout the semester.
Kind regards,

Year 9
Our Year 9 cohort has spent this term both reflecting and looking ahead. Through their Morrisby profiling and personalised career counselling sessions, students have begun to uncover their unique strengths, interests, and possible future directions. They have also made a great start to their new Semester 2 electives, giving them the chance to explore new learning areas and consider the subjects they may wish to pursue in future years.
Week 2 of Term 3 will see our students take part in the Subject Selection Fair. This event gives students the opportunity to explore the subjects and programs offered at Sunbury College in Year 10 and engage with each faculty to gain a clearer understanding of the differences between subject options. These experiences, combined with their Morrisby insights, will support students to make informed and confident decisions when selecting their Year 10 subjects later in the term. If your child has any subject‑specific questions, we encourage them to reach out directly to teachers in those areas.
Thank you to all families who have already provided consent for their child to attend the Naarm Engagement Program and returned the Code of Conduct. If you haven’t yet completed this process, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. Consent and payment can be completed via Compass, and extra copies of the Code of Conduct are available from the Middle Years Office. If your child is not attending, please decline the event on Compass so that we are aware.
A reminder too that all students must be in the correct school uniform in order to participate. Please refer to the Sunbury College Dress Code Policy found on the College website for further information on school uniforms, particularly acceptable cost effective uniform items.
Kind regards,

Year 10
Our Year 10 students have had a busy term with their first round of exams and work experience now completed. All students should be proud of their efforts and preparation for exams, as well as their endeavour throughout; representing themselves and the school with pride. Employers spoke highly of the students' efforts, engagement, and willingness to learn during work experience. Congratulations to all who made the most of this opportunity and the learning that came with it!
On Wednesday 24 June, Year 10 students were introduced to course selection and the VCE/ VCE VM options available at Sunbury College during our annual VCE and VCE VM information evening.
Following the success of the evening, students will now begin the process of selecting the pathway option they wish to follow for 2027 and career planning. Students and families are encouraged to make a booking for the Course Counselling sessions via Compass on 14 July. Sunbury College prides itself on discussing and planning future options for senior students and strives to ensure each student positively engages in course counselling and planning before entering their final years of schooling.

Year 10 Work Experience
We hope you have been hearing about the many positive experiences our Year 10 students have enjoyed during the past two weeks of Work Experience. The Work Experience program provides valuable and eye-opening learning opportunities, allowing students to develop new skills, build confidence, and gain insight into potential future career pathways.
Throughout the two weeks, students have had the opportunity to experience real workplace environments, interact with professionals across a range of industries, and gain a deeper understanding of employer expectations. Many students have demonstrated excellent maturity, initiative, and professionalism while representing both themselves and Sunbury College.
Work Experience provides an important bridge between school and the world of work, helping students make more informed decisions about their future education, training, and career options. It also encourages the development of essential employability skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and adaptability.
We would like to thank our host employers, families, and staff who have supported our students throughout this experience. Their guidance and encouragement have played a significant role in making the week both successful and rewarding. We look forward to hearing students reflect on their experiences and the valuable lessons they have gained from this important opportunity.

Year 9 Japanese Excursion: Exploring Melbourne Through Language and Culture
こんにちは~
Recently, our Year 9 Japanese students took part in an exciting excursion to Melbourne's CBD, combining language learning with real-world experiences.
Students participated in a Japanese-themed scavenger hunt around the city, working in small teams to solve clues and complete challenges entirely in Japanese. Using their knowledge of directions and location phrases, students navigated between various landmarks while applying the language skills they have been developing in class.
After the scavenger hunt, students visited a local Japanese restaurant where they had the opportunity to use their speaking skills in an authentic setting. Students ordered their meals in Japanese, using restaurant vocabulary, polite expressions, and culturally appropriate language. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow as they communicated with staff and put their learning into practice.
The excursion was a great opportunity for students to experience Japanese language and culture beyond the classroom. It was wonderful to see students embrace the challenge, support one another, and engage so positively throughout the day.
A big congratulations to our Year 9 Japanese students for their enthusiastic participation and excellent behaviour. They represented the school exceptionally well and should be very proud of their efforts!
お疲れ様でした!
