Year 7 and 8

Year 7

We have had a busy and exciting second half of Term 2 at Sunbury College.

One of the highlights this term was celebrating students who consistently demonstrate excellent work habits, positive attitudes, and strong engagement in their learning. These students were rewarded with a movie excursion in recognition of their efforts and commitment.

Another significant event was the Luke Kennedy incursion. Luke delivered a highly engaging and informative presentation, sharing his life experiences, including his involvement with gangs, crime, incarceration, and the consequences of risk-taking behaviours from a young age. His presentation focused on building resilience, developing positive mindsets, strengthening confidence, and making positive choices. Luke encouraged students to reflect on their behaviour, take responsibility for their actions, show kindness, and strive to reach their full potential. The incursion provided valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate our college values of Respect, Responsibility, Endeavour, and Resilience through active listening, thoughtful questioning, and engagement with Luke’s story.

Throughout the term, we have continued to focus on organisation and punctuality across the Year 7 cohort, helping students develop the skills and habits needed for success. It has been pleasing to see improvements in overall work habits and preparedness for learning.

As the weather becomes colder, we would like to thank students and families for their ongoing support of the school uniform policy. Wearing the correct uniform promotes a sense of belonging, pride, and a positive school culture within our college community.

To finish the term on a positive note, the Year 7 cohort had a great time on their Melbourne Zoo excursion on the last day of term. It was great to see so many students excited to enjoy this learning experience and celebrate a successful term together.

We wish all students and families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 3.

Kind regards,

Year 8

As Semester 1 comes to a close, it is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the achievements and successes of our Year 8 cohort. Throughout the term, students have worked diligently in their classes, completing learning tasks and consistently striving to uphold our school values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility, and Endeavour.

This term, students participated in two exciting cohort competitions. The first focused on preparedness for learning, correct uniform, and demonstrating our school values through the collection of Green Posts. The second competition challenged students to improve their punctuality and ensure they arrived ready to learn each day. Both competitions generated great enthusiasm and showcased the positive attitudes of our Year 8 students.

There have also been several opportunities to celebrate student success. Pizza lunches were held to recognise our high achievers, including students who achieved a perfect Work Habits Rating (WHR) of 4.0 and those who maintained 100% attendance throughout the term. These celebrations acknowledged the commitment, dedication, and positive habits demonstrated by our students.

Our Year 8 students have also proudly represented the school in a variety of sporting events, including AFL, soccer, girls netball and badminton. Across all competitions, students represented themselves, their peers, and the school with great sportsmanship and pride, consistently demonstrating our school values both on and off the field.

As the semester concludes, students have successfully completed their first two elective subjects and are preparing to transition into their new electives for Semester 2. This transition provides exciting opportunities for students to explore new interests, develop new skills, and continue their learning journey.

Congratulations to all Year 8 students on the endeavour and resilience you have shown throughout your first semester. We encourage everyone to enjoy a well-deserved break, take time to refresh and recharge, and return ready for a productive and successful Term 3.

Well done, Year 8!

Kind regards,
