Foundation

Hello Families,

We hope everyone had a lovely and relaxing long weekend with their friends and families. We'd like to spotlight our learning in SEL this week (social and emotional learning).  We've been learning to recognise and represent a range of emotions through a change in body and facial expressions in ourselves and others. The students had the best time using their whole body to express a range of emotions while their partner took a photo on an ipad. They had so much fun that when asked what their favourite day of school was days later, Emmanuel answered 'when we took photos of emotions on the ipads'. We wonder if you can guess which emotion the children are expressing? Have a great weekend :)

Year 1

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful break over the long weekend!

This term for Inquiry, we are learning about recycling, reusing, repurposing, and refusing waste. An important part of the Inquiry process at our school is taking action. After learning about a topic, we think about how we can make a positive difference and put our learning into practice. As part of our action project this term, we have been collecting rubbish from around our classroom and transforming it into a piece of artwork. There is nothing families need to do, we simply wanted to share a little update on our progress! The artwork is really beginning to take shape, and we thought you might enjoy a sneak peek. You'll get to see the finished masterpiece next term, but for now, we have a challenge for you: Can you guess what it is?

Enjoy the photo below, and we look forward to revealing the finished creation soon!

Year 2

Hello Families,

Our week went by so quickly, but we still had a lot of fun with our learning. We focused on positive ways to enjoy our days through friendships and making good choices. We're learning about different forms of Prayer,  started our Inquiry projects - plan and design a sailboat to take us away! Thank You everyone for supporting our learning about recycling and reusing materials, the class are very excited to see each others' projects. In the coming weeks we'll also be learning about measuring weight and capacity and more about how to read the calendar. Have a lovely weekend ahead.

Year 3/4 AL

Next week, our two classes will be presenting an assembly item inspired by our class novel, Leo and Ralph. Throughout the story, the white balloon becomes an important symbol.  It reminds Leo that some things can still be real and important, even when we cannot always see them. The balloon represents ideas such as friendship, hope, belonging, kindness and connection. For our assembly presentation, the students have been working hard to create their own white balloons to share what we believe is important to carry with us each day.

Year 3/4 T

Our Year 3/4 students have been participating in targeted mathematics sessions, led by our Numeracy leader Marty, focused on developing strong foundations in number, place value, and addition and subtraction.

Research shows that before students can become fluent mathematicians, they first need opportunities to build understanding, practise new skills, and apply them in different ways. Through hands-on games, partner activities and targeted review tasks, students are strengthening key strategies and developing confidence with number concepts.

It has been wonderful to see students discussing their thinking, applying new strategies, and building their mathematical confidence in a fun and engaging learning environment.

Next week will be our 3/4 Assembly and we hope to see families and carers coming along to see what we have been up to in our learning!

As always thank you for helping make our school community such a positive and supportive place. We look forward to seeing many of you at our assembly next week. Have a wonderful and restful weekend!

Tess 3/4T 🌸🌈

Year 5/6J

One of this term’s R.E. unit for the Year 5/6 students, is on Prayer. This unit builds on the student’s understanding of prayer as a relationship and deepens their appreciation of Christian prayer prior to examining prayers of other cultures. This week, all students have been researching and learning the traditional aspects of Judau=ism as they relate to Jesus’ Jewish heritage.

Laura: What I found interesting is how the Jewish use items and symbols in their faith, for example how they have a prayer shawl they wear to pray and they believe that it brings them closer to God.

Azariah: Learning about Judaism was interesting because it’s nice to explore how others worship God.

Georgia: Learning about the Jewish Sabbath is not what I first thought! I loved finding out that it is a day of complete rest. And then there’s a big feast the next day.

Brenton: I found it interesting how similar the Christianity faith is to the Jewish faith.

Massie: Jewish people write down their prayers on paper and put it in the prayer box - the Tefillin. I found this so unique and profound.

Nirav: ….. how Judaism and Christianity share similar ideals and values.

Year 5/6M

In Inquiry this semester, the Year 5/6’s are looking at the topic ‘The Science of Change’. They have been learning to design / redesign products to be fair, sustainable and ethical. This week, all students began planning the size of their individual item, then using this plan to follow the design process.
