Prep
This term the Prep students have enjoyed learning about looking after ourselves and being safe. They had lots of fun using hands on materials to learn about Mass and 2D shapes.
Next term we are looking forward to learning all about Australian Animals. This will be incorporated into our Reading and Writing lessons, where they will learn lots of information about different Australian Animals, and learn to write this information into sentences. We continue to work through the Phonics Plus sequence, which will focus on digraphs. Our Maths lessons will focus on learning about Addition and Subtraction, Ordinal Numbers, Statistics and Length. In Respectful Relationships we will learn about Stress Management and Help Seeking.
Some fun events in Prep that will be happening this term include, celebrating our 100 days of school, our school production and an excursion to the Healesville Sanctuary.
Grade 1/2
It has been a busy and exciting term in Grade 1/2! In Inquiry, students have been exploring the forces of push and pull through a range of hands-on investigations.
In Writing, students have been learning how to write procedures, focusing on making their instructions clear, organised, and easy for others to follow. During Maths lessons, students have developed their understanding of telling the time while also exploring multiplication and division concepts.
Next term promises to be another exciting one as we begin our Inquiry unit on Traditional Aboriginal Tales. In Writing, students will create information reports and poems about Australian animals while continuing to build their phonics knowledge and reading skills. In Maths, we will be focusing on place value, counting, and money.
Our wellbeing focus next term will centre on help-seeking strategies, and students will continue to develop their understanding of emotions and self-regulation through the Zones of Regulation.
There are also many exciting events to look forward to next term, including our Hands on Science incursion, School Production, Junior Athletics Day, and Book Week. Start thinking about your Book Week costumes. We can't wait to see everyone's creative ideas!
Grade 3/4
What a busy and exciting term it has been in Grade 3/4!
This term, students explored the First Fleet through their Inquiry unit and create a journal from the perspective of a person on the First Fleet. In our wellbeing unit, students learnt about the Zones of Regualtion and the Respectful Relationships unit 'Problem Solving'.
In Maths, students focused on multiplication, area and perimeter and had projects to showcase their understandings. In Science lessons investigated heat, exploring how heat moves.
Students developed their understanding of figurative language, summarising and visualising in Reading, and created engaging narratives in Writing. Students also enjoyed our class novel studies of Matilda, Mr Stink and The BFG. Students continued building their skills through Phonics and Spelling.
Some highlights of the term included the Immigration Museum Excursion, Tree Planting Excursion, Be Fit, Be Well, Flynn Kroeger, Cross Country and the MLMC Sport Program.
Next term we are looking forward to Production, 3/4 Camp to Candlebark Farm, Athletics Days and Hoop Time.
Grade 5/6
What a fantastic and busy term it has been in Grade 5/6!
In Literacy, students participated in Book Club groups, engaging in rich discussions about their novels while developing their comprehension, critical thinking and collaborative skills. In Writing, students crafted persuasive texts focused on creating healthy changes within their school, home or community. They learned how to develop strong arguments, support their opinions with evidence and write with purpose.
In Mathematics, students tackled a range of topics including perimeter and area, fractions, decimals, probability, 3D objects, and location and transformation. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they explained their mathematical thinking and applied their skills to real-world situations.
Our Respectful Relationships and Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds programs encouraged students to explore stress management strategies, resilience, growth mindset and emotional regulation. These important learning experiences helped students develop skills to support their wellbeing both now and into the future.
This term, students also benefited from a number of engaging incursions and guest speakers. We welcomed members of Victoria Police, who spoke with students about online safety and responsible decision-making. Students were inspired by Paralympian Emma Mickle, who shared her journey of resilience, determination and achieving success at the highest level of sport. We also welcomed former AFL player Flynn Kroeger through the After the Bounce program, where he shared his personal story of overcoming significant life challenges and demonstrated the importance of resilience, perseverance and maintaining a positive mindset in the face of adversity. Students also participated in sessions delivered by the Butterfly Foundation, which focused on wellbeing, self-esteem and positive body image. In addition, students took part in the Sexual Health and Puberty Education program, providing age-appropriate information to support their understanding of personal development and wellbeing.
Beyond the classroom, students represented Lilydale Primary School with pride through Winter Interschool Sports, District Cross Country and various leadership opportunities. We were continually impressed by the sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance displayed by our students. A special congratulations goes to our Girls Netball Team, who were crowned Division Champions and will now progress to the District Finals. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work, dedication and teamwork shown by all players throughout the season.
Looking ahead, Term 3 promises to be another exciting term, with students participating in a range of opportunities including HoopTime Basketball, District Netball, the Rotary Speech Competition, House Athletics, the Talk Money financial literacy incursion, our school production, and the much-anticipated Grade 5/6 Camp.
As we approach the end of Term 2, we would like to thank families for their ongoing support. We wish everyone a safe, and well-deserved holiday break and look forward to another exciting term of learning in Term 3.
