Semester 1 Examinations
As we approach the end of Semester 1, students completed their final assessments for all of their Semester 1 subjects and commenced preparation for examinations.
Examinations were conducted between the 15th of June to the 25th of June. To support Year 11 VCE access students undertaking a Year 12 subject, any examination clashes were rescheduled to ensure students could attend their Year 12 classes and access important Unit 4 learning.
Year 12 VCE students, along with Year 11 and Year 12 VCE VM students, continued with their regular timetabled classes throughout the examination period.
Year 10 Examination Preparation Workshop
On the 11th of June, Year 10 students participated in an Examination Preparation Workshop designed to familiarise them with examination expectations and procedures. As many students have limited experience with formal semester examinations, the workshop aimed to build confidence and reduce uncertainty by outlining key information, including how to line up in roll order for their examinations, how they will be directed into the examination centres, where to access their examination timetables, procedures and policies they must be aware of during the exam period that are aligned to VCAA rules and how they can best prepare for their upcoming exams.
General Achievement Test
During Week 6, Year 11 VCE Access students and all Year 12 VCE and VCE VM students participated in a General Achievement Test (GAT) preparation session. The workshop provided an overview of the purpose and structure of the GAT, including the differences between Part A and Part B, and highlighted the role of the GAT in supporting students' final VCAA assessments. All students completing a Unit 3 and 4 VCE or VCE VM sequence were required to sit the GAT on Tuesday the 16th of June.
Careers Week and Careers Expo Planning
Mitch McAlpine, Leading Teacher – Pathways and VCE VM, coordinated Careers Week from the 11th until the 17th of May. Activities included Kahoot quizzes, alumni panels and question-and-answer sessions available to students across all year levels during recess and lunchtime.
Planning is also well underway for the HSSC Careers Expo, which will be held on Tuesday the 21st of July, Week 2 of Term 3. Mitch has developed a comprehensive program tailored to each year level, with a focus on supporting course counselling for Year 10 and Year 11 students and post-school pathway planning for Year 12 students. Students will participate in workshops covering Career Action Plans, Unique Student Identifier (USI) requirements and résumé development. Guest speakers from Monash and Deakin Universities have also been arranged, with support from Janice and Hayley, to provide students with valuable insights into further education and career opportunities.
We look forward to showcasing this event with all of our Senior students at the beginning of next Semester.
