Transitions 

Term 2 has been a busy and productive period for the Transitions team as we continue to support students in making informed decisions about their future learning pathways.

A key focus this term has been preparing the current Year 9 students from our Precinct Partner Schools for their transition into Year 10. Students participated in a presentation outlining the Year 10 program, subject offerings, and the opportunities available to them as they begin planning their senior secondary pathway. These sessions provided students with valuable information to help them make informed subject selections and better understand the connection between their interests, strengths and future aspirations.

We also facilitated the VCE Readiness and Advancement Testing process for students seeking entry into VCE Access subjects and Advanced Mathematics in Year 10 during 2027. This process provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their readiness for accelerated learning and forms an important part of the selection process for these programs. Thank you to all students and families who engaged with the application and testing process.

Throughout the term, we have continued to work closely with students and families to manage a significant number of subject change requests across Years 10 and 11. These conversations are an important part of ensuring students are enrolled in subjects that best align with their interests, abilities and future pathway goals. 

As we move into Term 3, our attention turns to the 2027 course selection process. Students and families will be supported through a range of Parent Information Evenings and individual course counselling opportunities, ensuring every student is equipped to make informed decisions about their future studies and pathway options.

Pathways 

Term 2 has been a busy and rewarding term for the Pathways team as we continue to support students in exploring their future education, training and career opportunities.

A significant focus this term has been working with our Year 12 students as they begin planning for life beyond secondary school. Individual careers conversations have provided students with the opportunity to discuss their future goals, explore pathway options and receive personalised advice regarding university, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships and employment opportunities.

Students have also been introduced to the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process and have begun exploring university and tertiary course options. These conversations have encouraged students to investigate course prerequisites, entry requirements and potential career pathways, helping them make informed decisions as they prepare for their post-school journey.

This term, our Year 11 students attended the Melbourne Careers Expo, providing them with a valuable opportunity to explore a wide range of post-school pathways. Students engaged directly with representatives from universities, TAFEs, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, employment services and industry organisations, gaining first-hand information about future study and career opportunities. The expo enabled students to ask questions, investigate course requirements and explore career options aligned with their interests and aspirations. The experience has provided students with valuable information to support future subject selections, pathway planning and informed decision-making as they prepare for their senior years and life beyond school.

Looking ahead to Term 3, we are excited to be running our annual Careers Day for Year 10 and 11 students. This event will provide students with valuable opportunities to learn more about VCE pathways, future study options and potential career directions.

As part of the day, students will participate in activities designed to support their pathway planning, including:

• Exploring VCE subject options and pathway opportunities.
• Completing and updating their Career Action Plans.
• Researching tertiary courses, career pathways and industry opportunities.
• Investigating subject prerequisites and entry requirements for future study.

Careers Day is an important opportunity for students to reflect on their interests, strengths and aspirations while gaining the information needed to make informed decisions about their future studies and career pathways.

We look forward to continuing to work with students and families throughout Term 3 as they begin making important decisions about subject selections and course counselling in preparation for 2027.
