Semester One Reports 2026

One of the statewide industrial actions earlier this year related to teachers not providing personalised written comments on student progress reports this semester. Due to industrial action taken by the AEU members and the extended duration of the matter, the following sections of the school reports will not be provided:

  • Teacher comments

  • Attitudes and Behaviour

  • Demonstrated Level of Knowledge and Skill

Families will still receive clear information about their child’s progress, as the Semester One reports will provide a teacher judgement progression point against the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards for all curriculum areas taught during the reporting period.

We understand that written comments are valued by families, and we appreciate your support and understanding. Teachers will continue to support and monitor students’ learning and progress throughout the semester.

Parents and carers will have the opportunity to discuss their child’s academic progress in more detail during Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th July.

More information regarding parent teacher interviews will be sent out next week, and the booking system in Compass for parent teacher interviews will open on Monday 15th June at 4pm.

National Simultaneous Storytime 2026

Last week, students and staff across Valkstone Primary School joined millions of children and educators around Australia in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS).

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event that promotes the importance of reading and literacy through a shared reading experience. This year's selected book, Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake Minton, was read simultaneously in schools, libraries and homes across the country.

The action-packed story follows Luna Roo, the rookie captain of FC Outback, as she faces nerves, challenges and tough opponents on the football field. Through courage, determination and teamwork, Luna learns to trust herself and her teammates.

At Valkstone, students enjoyed sharing in this nationwide reading event and participating in classroom activities inspired by the story. The themes of resilience, teamwork, self-belief and perseverance sparked rich discussions and learning opportunities across the school.

Events such as National Simultaneous Storytime remind us of the power of stories to bring people together while fostering a love of reading and supporting the development of strong literacy skills. We thank our staff for helping make this year's event a memorable celebration of Australian literature.
