Principal's Message

Dear Holy Family Parents,

Leadership Faith Formation - Spiritus Program

This week, Mrs Stella and I had the privilege to participate in the Spiritus Program, a retreat experience facilitated by the Australian Catholic University (ACU) as part of our ongoing Leadership Formation Program. Spiritus brings together educators and leaders from Catholic schools and the wider Church who are committed to deepening their understanding of mission and renewing their call to evangelisation.

For both of us, the retreat was an opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the heart of who we are called to be as leaders within a Catholic school. The Spiritus Program is an in‑depth exploration of evangelisation in a Catholic education context, centred on the essential question:

“As missionary disciples, how can we most effectively present the Kerygma—the Good News—in our local contexts?”

Throughout the retreat, we entered into rich and meaningful conversations, shared prayer, and moments of deep theological reflection with colleagues who share a passion for forming young people in faith. These moments invited us to consider what is means to evangelise, as well as the personal and relational nature of our leadership. We were encouraged to reflect on our own encounters with Christ—those quiet moments of grace that shape our leadership and ground us in purpose. It reminded us that evangelisation is not merely something we teach; it is something we live and embody every day. As leaders at Holy Family, we are called to be witnesses who bring hope, compassion, and joy to those we serve.

The retreat also invited us to reflect on our school’s beautiful motto: “Strength and Gentleness. ”These words capture so much of what true Christian leadership looks like—firm in conviction, courageous in truth, yet always tender, compassionate, and guided by love. It is a motto that echoes deeply the message of St Brigid, whose spirit of hospitality, generosity, and care for the vulnerable continues to inspire our mission. St Brigid reminds us that the Gospel is most powerfully proclaimed through small acts of welcome, kindness, and courageous compassion.

Both Mrs Stella and I feel renewed and grateful for the time to reflect, for the opportunity to grow, and for the blessing of leading a community where faith is not simply spoken but lived. We look forward to sharing the insights gained through Spiritus with our staff and continuing to evangelise which is to strengthen the culture of faith, belonging, and hope that defines Holy Family.

Harmony Day - March 21

At Catholic Schools Broken Bay, Harmony Day is about more than celebration — it’s about safeguarding belonging. In line with our child‑safe commitments, we are dedicated to creating school environments where:

  • every student feels safe, respected and included
  • racism and discrimination are not tolerated
  • student voice is listened to and taken seriously

Belonging is protective. When students feel accepted, they are more likely to feel safe and speak up when something isn’t right.

Everyone belongs. Everyone deserves to feel safe.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

This week is Neurodiversity Celebration Week,a global initiative that recognises and values the many different ways people think, learn and experience the world.

At CSBB, we believe every child is created with unique gifts and strengths. Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a wonderful opportunity for families to celebrate the diversity of learners within our communities and to help children understand that everyone’s brain works in different and valuable ways.

Parents and carers can take part in simple but meaningful ways:

  • Talk with your child about neurodiversity and the different ways people think and learn
  • Encourage your child to recognise and celebrate the strengths in themselves and others
  • Share stories and books that help children understand neurodiversity
  • Model kindness, respect and inclusion when talking about differences

By recognising and celebrating neurodiversity together, we help create communities where every child feels seen, valued and supported.
