Year 7 - Melbourne Camp

Last week, our Year 7 students enjoyed a fantastic camp experience in Melbourne, packed with learning, adventure and plenty of fun.

One of the highlights was our visit to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, where students were treated to a backstage tour, including the change rooms and behind-the-scenes areas. It was a wonderful opportunity to step into the history and atmosphere of such a significant Australian sporting venue.

We then headed to the Arts Centre Melbourne for an engaging drama workshop. Students enthusiastically participated, building confidence, creativity and teamwork skills through a range of interactive activities.

A visit to the bustling Queen Victoria Market gave students a taste of city life, followed by a special catch-up with a former King’s student who generously brought cupcakes to share. She spoke openly about her journey from school to university and the exciting aspects of living and studying in the city, which was both inspiring and insightful for our students.

The adventure continued with an energetic rock-climbing session and an exploration of the fascinating marine life at the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium.

I was incredibly impressed by the way our Year 7 students conducted themselves throughout the stay. They supported one another, worked together beautifully, and embraced every opportunity with positivity and enthusiasm. We were blessed with beautiful weather, which made exploring the city even more enjoyable.

A special thank you to CYC City Melbourne for their warm hospitality and excellent accommodation. It was a memorable camp, and we are so proud of the way our students represented our school.

Year 9 & 10 - Warrnambool Careers Expo

On Tuesday 3rd March our Year 9 and 10 students went to the Warrnambool Careers Expo. They took full advantage of this opportunity, chatting to different industry professionals and collecting lots of resources, to help them decide what they might like to do in the future. This was a fabulous event and the students came away buzzing.

Year 12 English - Shakespeare Production

On Friday, February 20th, a group of Year 12 students travelled to Melbourne to see the Australian Shakespeare Company’s production of  Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in the Royal Botanical Gardens. They were accompanied by Mr Zeunert and Mrs Van Leerdam.

The show was brilliant – funny, poignant and deeply meaningful, weaving an elaborate story of mistaken identity and the dangers of making assumptions about people based on appearances. It reinforced the students’ understanding of the text they are currently studying in class, and provided them with a stronger connection to the play and its key ideas and messages.

A particular highlight of the show was our very own Abraham Bishai being pulled up onto the stage by one of the actors, and engaging in a song and dance number. While we all enjoyed watching him on stage, nobody had more fun with it than Abraham himself!

It was a real blessing to be able to enjoy this live theatre experience in a beautiful setting on a balmy summer evening. It was certainly a night to remember!

VCE VM - Roma Britnell MP Visit

On Thursday Feb 26th, the VM Work Related Skills Class enjoyed a visit from Roma Britnell MP who talked with the students about the role she plays as a local Member of State Parliament, and the different jobs and positions she held on her route to becoming elected.

Ms Britnell also discussed the importance of knowing who their local MPs are, and communicating with them, in whatever job or path they might pursue in life.Ms Britnell encouraged the students to develop their natural talents and to meet challenges head on, with the understanding that everything in life would help to prepare them for further challenges and rewards down the road.

We are very thankful to Ms Britnell and her team for the visit and for the encouragement she gave to our students.
