Camp Rumbug Reflection

When we arrived at camp we were greeted by the most welcoming staff at Camp Rumbug. We all knew we were going to have such an exciting stay at camp, and we weren’t wrong!

Food

The food was great. Our first snack was an ANZAC slice, a crumbly treat to keep us energised for our activities. The first official meal was dinner. We had penne bolognese. We also had vanilla ice cream. It was delicious! A great way to start our camp stay. The following morning for breakfast we had a wide range of options, such as scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, cereal, toast and yogurt. It was a delicious breakfast and it filled us up for the day. For morning tea we had an apple slice which was a very yummy sweet treat. The staff at Camp Rumbug really know what they are doing! For lunch we had beef burgers and chicken burgers as well as salads and fresh fruit. Between the activities after lunch, we had some incredible banana bread. That night we had Mexican dinner with chicken and beef tacos with rice. Chicken was my favorite! On the side was rice and salsa. For dessert, we had jelly with custard on top. The next day, we had baked beans on toast with hash browns and many options in the salad bar such as cereal and yogurt. Our morning tea that day was a bag of popcorn, just something small to keep us going. For lunch that day, we had sausage rolls with tomato and barbeque sauce as a quick filler before the bus ride home.

The Activities

We all very much enjoyed the many exciting and thrilling activities that Camp Rumbug had to offer. Even though the mud run was messy, we all had a lot of fun being able to get dirty for once, doing something we would never normally be able to do on a school camp. We all loved the thrilling giant swing, the feeling of being up in the air was so extraordinary! The flying fox was so exciting, and it was great to experience it with a friend because it was a twin flying fox! We learned how to navigate ourselves during orienteering using north, south, east and west to lead us the right way. During raftmaking we learned water safety skills, learning how to build a raft and see if it was successful to float in the lake. We also learned how to think outside our comfort zones during initiatives, learning how to approach the problems we faced in a different way to how we would normally. Some people also did archery, it taught us how to use a bow correctly and shoot at the target. The activities were such fun to participate in!

Special Events

At camp there were many special events to do other than our regular activities. On night 1, there was a Campfire, where the camp staff, Caitlyn and Hazel told us a story about their last holiday, getting us to join in with songs and dances. We also had a debate about eggs and ham. On day 2, we got rained out towards the end of the day, so we did some indoor activities. We split into two groups: Year 5s and Year 6s. Year 6s started off playing some ball sports such as Number Soccer and Mountains and Valleys. Then we swapped activities with the Year 5s and started Splash where we put ourselves into teams of 5-8 people and did some minigames such as a Shoe Stacking Relay, A relay to put our shoes back on and a Drawing Contest. Then based on how many minigames the teams won, they would get different amounts of materials to use to protect a water balloon that would be dropped. Teams who won everything would get lots of materials, whereas teams who won nothing would not get many materials. Then, if our water balloon survived, we would get to throw it at the camp staff. On night 2, we had a quiz. The quiz had 30 questions split among 3 sections: General Knowledge, Name The Character and Guess The Movie. There was also a Paper Airplane Contest giving bonus points if you won. The Paper Airplane Contest allowed you to make any design as you wish, but each team member was only allowed to fold it once.

Overall, we loved Camp Rumpug, it was such a great experience to be involved in and we really wish we could come back!
