Principal's Report

By John Mooney

When you turn on the news programs on television these days, there is a good chance that almost all of the news will be about conflict, tragedy and severe weather. Many families have told me that they do not allow their children to watch television for this reason.  Some parents turn off the television when advertisements are on.  One parent said to me last week “… why do they allow gambling ads during the football and immediately tell our children that it is bad for them … “  Things can certainly get out of balance these days.

In 1983, the Canadian singer, Anne Murray, had a hit song called ‘A Little Good News’.  She recognised the problem of sensationalising negative news and advertisements 43 years ago. It is sad that we still have the same problem today.

It is important that every school in Australia provide students with an exciting and stimulating program that children look forward to every day.  When you are in a learning program that caters for your individual needs and interests, your chances of success are optimised.
