'Be kind to yourself - forgive yourself for a mistake you've made and learn from it'.
In Inquiry, our Year 3/4 students have been engaging in a rich and meaningful social justice unit, Someone Else’s Shoes, exploring what it means to build a fair, inclusive and respectful community. This learning also supports students’ own wellbeing by building confidence, empathy and a sense of belonging, while helping them recognise how their actions can positively impact the wellbeing of others.
Throughout the unit, students have developed their understanding of fairness, inclusion and accessibility, highlighting how they can help create safe and inclusive communities for those around them and in the wider community.
A strong focus has been on empathy, with students encouraged to consider different perspectives and “step into someone else’s shoes.” They have reflected on how we can celebrate diversity and the importance of being an ally, standing up for others and promoting inclusion in everyday actions. To share their learning, students worked in groups to design posters to promote messages of kindness and inclusion.
This unit strongly connects to our school values of Community, Respect and Excellence, as students learn to value differences, act with empathy, and strive to make our community a kinder, fairer place for all.
