Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Week 3 has been an engaging time for everyone!  In Mathematics the students participated in tasks related to the Olympic Games. They were required to answer questions related to the medal tally, and record and analyse data from the tasks they completed. In English we finished reading the novel Waves, examining the narrative structure and using this knowledge to plan and write character reflections. In Religion, the students viewed images of the Last Supper and considered how those present in the room would have related to Jesus, and found out about their religious backgrounds and experiences. In Social Emotional Learning we began to consider our gender identity.

Mathematics: We will continue to participate in tasks related to the Olympic Games. We will be looking at different events and exploring the mathematics particularly fractions, decimals and percentages. We look forward to the students sharing their own Olympic Game at the end of the week.

English: We will begin to read our new book "Storm Boy" and continue to work on spelling, grammar and typing. The students will continue to focus upon reading with expression and fluency with poem texts.

Religious Education: We are learning to understand the significance of the Transfiguration of Jesus, recognizing it as a pivotal moment in the New Testament where Jesus is revealed in his divine glory to Peter, James, and John. Also, we are learning about St. Mary MacKillop, her life, her contributions to society, and her significance as the first Australian saint.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:  The students will name and share some of the different interests that make up their identity or individuality, while learning about some of the differences and similarities between students in the class. We will also appreciate that it is important to respect differences between people, and that girls and boys can share similar interests.

Auslan: Students will be learning that signed stories are a fun way to use imagination and be creative. They will use handling signs such as "close" and "play" along with previous signs "do you have?" and "I don't have".
